how to stretch a lower resolution on my 1440x900?

so when i had Vista or XP if I was playing a game where it had a maximum of 1200x600 (sorry if i say the numbers wrong) then the screen would stretch to fit my 1440x900 screen but now that i have a windows 7 it no longer does that, it simply makes it 1200x600 and instead of stretching it it puts 2 black columns on either side of the screen.

    how can i fix this?

the only thing i can think of is to search for the "widescreen" option...

now im thinking about it, i do recall seeing an option on the display settings regarding display resizing. however as i have gone through loads of different drivers on the past few weeks (finally found some awesome drivers for a mobility radeon hurrayyy), i don't remember exactly if they really were windows or driver's settings...

It IS stretching it, but now instead of stretching one dimension more than the other(which looks like garbage) it's keeping the aspect ratio. Also, it's a function of your video card drivers.
