    Curse Client?

Wasn't sure where this belonged so I'm stashing it here for right now. I used to use the Curse Client they offered so that I could automatically update my mods because manually doing it just wasn't cutting it for me. Unfortunately, it appeared to have a trojan of some kind inside of it and nearly compromised my account on several occasions. So I got rid of it, only to find out that I didn't actually remove it as it kept asking me if I wanted to reinstall it every time I started my computer. Is it still doing that? Or is it safe to download it again? Because I can't stand manually updating everything. If not, is there anything else like the Curse Client I can use to automatically update my addons?

Really? You're sure that it was Curse? Because I've never had any problems with it.

That does indeed sound odd, I've used mine for absolute ages and never had any kind of problems >_>

I'm quite positive. I didn't have those problems until I downloaded and installed the Curse Client. I haven't touched it since then because I'm really not a big fan of wiping my hard drive clean over and over again.

just update them manually to be safe i guess. it cant take more than 5 mins every 6 months or something

Make sure that what you download is the curse client. I don't and never have had any problems with it.

wowmatrix ? not as good imho but it can make it easier to update.also I never had any probs using the curse client. you sure it wasnt just your Anti-virus prog that said it had a trojan ? cause when you run it it changes files on your comp kinda like a trojan.

They update a lot more often than that. Or at least, that's what I've noticed with a couple of them.

I got it directly from the Curse.com website. I guess I might try it again.

Nope. I was definitely having problems logging into my World of Warcraft account. Kept getting booted off and my anti-virus programs were telling me World of Warcraft was the cause of it even though that had never happened before (at least, not until I installed the Curse Client).

I don't have any problems with it. I think there's another program that does the same sort of thing called WoW Matrix, which you could try using, but there really shouldn't be anything wrong with the Curse client.

The point is WHERE you downloaded it from. Were you searching perhaps for a *cough*cracked*choug* version?

This is exactly what I'm thinking as well. If you did, don't try looking for cracked versions, it's bad news, just stick to the free client, it's just as great.

    http://www.curse.com/client/

If you didn't DLed it from here then... Change all your passwords and scan your system...

I already stated where I downloaded it from.

Why would I need a cracked version of something I can download for free that does essentially the same thing?

That's precisely where I downloaded it from every time.

Simple Answer (as commely as i can) :

    1) stop being a braindead moron that think he "knows it all with computers" when you have no clue
    2) stop getting things like Curse client (or any other software) from more than dubious websites with trojans in it and blame the problem on the real software
    3) stop being a mongrel..... EVEN using Google's search to get the client, if you use your brain you won't get the trojan you installed and that caused you trouble....

Curse client NEVER offered to reinstall itself after being desinstalled, you've got a compromised version from another "hey braindead fucktard, click this link to become a millionaire, true story, no foul behind, click there it's safe" website, and THAT is what you still have on your comp, not the true client.

You can blame a lot of things on the client (it's not really what it could be, it's slow, it's a memory hog, it's really poorly designed, it use IE as an ad showing engine, and hence is vulnerable for all the peope refusing to upgrade or unable to because they use pirated software without being fit enough to find up-to-date cracks without trojans), but the behaviour you describe isn't one of it. You just got conned out of getting a full batch of trojans on your comp out of stupidity and are blamming it on curse.....

Get the REAL client from Curse.com once you've purged your comp from the 2 thousans virus/malwares/adwares that are on your comp and you'll be fine... (sorry for being harsh but i'm tired of people that can't take2 mins to read search answers and pop ups and use a decent/functionnal antivirus software who came to lay blame on normal software for thebeing infected when the only culprit lie between chair and keyboard... another CKI problem once again).

IF you got it from curse.com, it won't offer to reinstall itself EVER after being desinstalled (no, you didn't get a special brand only you have amongst the millions users of Curse client, you just decided to get it fom somewhere else, probably to get a *cracked* pro-version...).

IF it offers to reinstall itself, you have a bunch of trojans from elsewhere on your comp (and NO an av won't flag it as a trojan because it allows the downloading and modification of files on your comp, get a fucking grip ffs, and stop spreading lies any dim wit with half a functionning brain and an hour can prove false by lurking wikipedia..... ).

Why would curse spread trojans? It's a big company, they couldn't afford it.

Are you sure you got your curse client from curse.com? Because to me it sounds like you downloaded some malware that tries to look like the curse client.

I sincerely doubt it was my anti-virus. I always keep several of them on my computer at any given time and I double-check by running them each twice. Takes a while but it lets me know I'm secure. They all said the same thing about World of Warcraft and as I said, it didn't happen until I downloaded & installed the Curse Client.

Big companies make big mistakes all the time.

I downloaded it straight from Curse.com. I've said this several times now.

Note for the computer illiterates that don't understand a thing AND can't read messages.... stop using cracked av software when you have NO FUCKING CLUE of what you do and where you get them, you only make matters worse....

Stick with AVG/Avira free version and it should be good, instead of "cracked" versions of other (really bad) software (because really there is only a handful of good av that aren't bloatware out there, including the 2/3 decent free ones) if you have no fucking clue of what you are doing (if you get warnings for the Curse client from Curse.com it means you have no clue, so stop thinking you are cleaver and able to live of cracked software, you aren't, you are just another sitting duck for the admins of zombie networks because you have no clue and are greedy like a 12 years old.... ).
