AMDs Southern Island chips should be ready about the same time.

With both GPUs being manufactured in 28nm (down from 40nm) I think we can look forward to another epic AMD vs. Nvidia duel in Q4 2012.

Im planing to get my hands on a 680

500 euros or so, got mine for 400 from sale right after the launch.

With nvidias engineering record I highly doubt they well roll out product this year. Late q1 at the earliest. also I would not consider taping out to be ready for production.

The 6 series might be great but I say wait for the 7 series, that's when you will really start to see what the chip is capable of.

That, and I already have a 5 series card, so i'm set for a few more years.

I'll pass on the 680, my rule is to always skip atleast 1 generation unless something mind-blowing has been improved to the point where you're seeing 70-100% performance gains. Also, even the single 580 was not cheap (for me anyway) and I want my dollars to last a while

I'll most probably buy a 780 (or HD8000 series if AMD starts leading the GPU industry), because by that time a 580 will fall under low/mid-range.

People are too optimistic. Be realistic. I won't believe it's out in 2011 until I hold one in my hand. Which won't happen.

Not sure what this really means. It's AMD vs nVidia, so each product they bring out will "beat" the other companys' product in an endless cycle. It's really a chicken vs egg argument.
