    There is something about those. There are others like it. It's some trick, a visual illusion of some sort. It has to do with the diagonals I believe.

    It's because the area of any parallelogram is greatest when it's a square. As the lengths of the sides get further and further apart, the area shrinks. In that gif, they resize the 8x8 square to be a 5x13 rectangle, and thus lose some area.
