At this point in the game, anyone that offers game time in trade for gold, is pretty much a scammer. These accounts are easily removed, and can be traced.
What you find difficult to understand is that with it being legit, it will be difficult to trust who to actually purchase time from with gold.
Right now its pretty simple.
Scammer advertises in trade gold for time. (Red flag already. If you keep it in pretty tight groups you have no issue.)
Player gives Scammer gold for time.
Scammer then purchases (with stolen credit card) and sends gift code to the player.
Player activates time.
Orginal Card Holder, reports card stolen, and rejects the payment to Blizzard.
Blizzard removes time, and holds Player accountable for the time spent on the account, forcing them to make a repayment.
With what you want to happen, there will be no red flag aside from possibly selling them at a huge discount versus the regular going price, as anyone can now sell time on trade. So scammers will most likely get more players to fall victim. Though when they fall victim, they will be forced to pay cash to reactivate their time, as they will be removed from the game.
This is one of the major reasons its against the rules in the first place on selling gold for cash. To many people unfortunately fall victim to scams, even when its against the rules. How many would you expect to fall for them, when they are not against the rules?
Its great that you have had no issues, but it does not reflect on all gold transactions in the game.

Shut up, It's not acceptable for them to sell gold. Don't give them any ifs
It would end up like Diablo 2, where the gold lost the value and ist runes was the current currency to trade with.

I would be all for it, WoW should sell gold, keep some items on a Honor point system in game, but if you want to buy gold, sure, could help up membership.
