Alysrazor, Flying, DPS and Steering.

My guild has decided to make me do the flying for Alysrazor but steering and trying to do my dps rotation is getting kinda hard to multitask.
Anyone got a macro to make me a 1 button priest as I fly - one of those spell queue macros? Im hit capped, so misses shouldnt worry me.

I really don't think a cast sequence macro works too well for sPriests outside of mind spike/MB spam.

You're better off assigning Mind Flay to a spare or extra mouse button so you can still cast it while using WSAD and mouse-look to fly around as that's probably your most pressed ability (I don't play shadow in raids though, so forgive me)

It shouldn't be too hard to hit all your other instant casts while flying, and remember you can move forward by pressing the left and right mouse buttons down at the same time in case you need to lift your finger off W to press another key.

Best tip I can give you is to pause after you hit a ring to re-aim your characters direction. I tend to look a bit down when flying so I end up below where I should be, leading me to having to press jump to get further up, risking a faceplant in a cloud. (Haven't happened yet but it's deffo a posibility)

Besides that, I really can't offer any advice on looking out for your rotation since I play a Mage (Pyrospam, roflololol) and use a Razer Naga mouse.

their is a macro section and one thread in particular that has a great series of macro's dependent on your level of haste/set bonuses
i believe these all require an addon called 'super duper macro' extending the length a macro can be from 255 characters to some stupidly high number.
not sure how good they are now but they were top notch in wrath.

That brings me to my other "problem" the rings give that stacking haste buff - which means things like Mind Flay and Dots are going to be done alot quicker.
I dunno, maybe I should just mind spike/blast spam...

I do the flying for my raid as a balance druid and what I found works best is to use the Mouse solely for movement, and only use my keyboard for rotation. I use hold L+R to move forward and mouse view to steer, with my basic rotation consisting of standard key binds. After each ring I pause for a second then move forward, if I know that the ring location should be changing.

Just practice, I always go up as an spriest, never have an issue maintaining rotation while hitting rings (after getting the hang of it). Using 2, 3, 4, 5 for abilities and W A D for all movement. Note patterns in the rings to make it easier to get into a rhythm, she spawns rings in three sets of three per lap of the air, each ring in a set will be in the same relative position to the boss. Ultimately, flying through rings is more important than squeezing out a perfect rotation, just make sure DoT timers are easily noticeable, MB on cooldown, and Flay like crazy. Using mind spike would be a colossal waste of the haste buff.

Well placed hotkeys and good control of your character is key when doing this. Move forward by holding down both mouse buttons. Strafe using A and D. Turn with mouse. If you keep following Alysrazor, the rings should spawn infront of you and you won't have problem steering into them using your mouse and strafe buttons.
I use a kind of unique setup for my spells, which I consider optimal and very very good. The way they work is that I NEVER have to change my left hand position when casting spells and I only have to move my fingers the shortest possible distance when casting spells.

S - Mind Flay
Q - SW:P
F - VT
E - DP
R - MB

As you see, all keys are as close to my WAD keys as possible. There is no reason to backpedal as priest so I unbinded that. As a tank it can be useful but else it is just retarded.

The only problem you will have using this strategy is taking aggro from tanks during phase 2.

I use my mouse for all movement, both mouse buttons pressed down and....steer while pressing 12345 etc.

This, more than anything else. Your DPS while flying means pretty much nothing until you get those stacks racking up. Get to 25 ASAP and then worry about your rotation, as long as you make sure you get enough rings to stay flying after that.

It's not supposed to be an easy thing to do. The only people who should find the flying thing easy are arcane mages, but they're rocking fire if they fly because the DPS is insane. It takes practice, so just keep at it. While learning it, I just ended up not bothering with my rotation at all and just learned how to fly, the spawn points, and the patterns. The advice to stop for a second after a ring does work, I did it a lot to get my bearings if the angle for MF made it difficult to see the next ring. You may also want to change your camera settings if that interferes with visibility.

I actually have a Naga as well, so I flew with the keyboard binds and cast with Naga buttons. It takes getting used to (I typically use the Naga binds for procs and healing, not DPS casting), but it can be very helpful while flying. You just have to find what works for you.

Keep in mind I was in a different mindset for a first kill and as such didn't maximize my buff during the burn phase. I was able to do much better this week though, nabbing the current rank one heroic 25.

Actually, Mages have it even more easily than Arcane have it on the ground, we literally only have to spam Pyroblast to get 50k dps. (Once we're on high stacks of course)
