I need help! (dual-booting Mac with Windows)

Hey everyone, I am in no way, shape, or form knowledgable about computers. So, I figured it was appropriate to come here for help.

Now, I can follow instructions pretty well (I've looked up how to dual-boot Mac with Windows), and I will do that. However, I don't know if I need to buy Windows 7, or anything like that. Can I download it online? Or if I already have it (I think I had it for my old PC), can I just use that same disc and use it for this Mac? Or will it only work once? I can't find this information on the internet, and any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Do you have a Windows 7 Bootable Installation disc?
If you don't you will need to buy it yes. I wouldn't recommend downloading it off the internet unless its from a Microsoft Approved vendor like MSDNAA.

If you already have the disc, you can use the same one. Just load up bootcamp and follow the directions.

Sorry, double post, but I'm following these instructions: download(dot)cnet(dot)com/8301-2007_4-10240368-12.html (because I can't find my disc for Windows 7) and I just installed VirtualBox (supposedly, this allows me to switch between operating systems without a restart).

I am now on the next step to download the Windows 7 Release Candidate, and it takes me to a page with a download button, and I then hit the download button. But then, it takes me here: windows(dot)microsoft(dot)com/en-US/windows7/products/home with no means of actually downloading Windows 7. So, is there a way to download Windows 7 for free?

^sorry, I had to put (dot) in place of "." so it wasn't recognized as a link

There is no way to download windows 7 for free without breaking the rules...

I used to have windows XP together with parallels on my Macbook Pro. Worked great, but i had to download a couple of drivers to make sound and touchpad work.

Actually, Swedish law dictates that if you own/have bought a program/copy/rights to use a program, you can download it freely as much as you'd like. And if our law dictates as such, we're probably not unique.

So if he has, like he says, a copy of Windows 7 that's not OEM or similiar, ie, transferrable, he could very well do it.

This is why my VPN provider is in Sweden. That and the requirement of 2+ years of jail time as a possible sentence if proven guilty being necessary to even bring a copyright infringement case against someone. That is actually pretty unique in Europe/North America.

I find it fairly amazing that the land of freedom and personal liberty (America) really isn't. Not compared to a fair number of Socialist (OMG! /GASP!) countries in Europe. Most Americans are ignorant to this fact though. Shame on us.

Right, that's what I meant. Is there a way to download Windows 7 off of the internet? Because I can't find my disk. I've purchased it though.

There are plenty of torrent sites out there that have legitimate copies of the media (the product keys with be pirated/fake). You may be able to buy the media from Microsoft. Barring that there are some places that sell the media only. Such as:

Honestly though you will have to do some work in Google to find what you need. The link above is for an Upgrade copy for Student edition. Your key probably won't work with it.

If you can remember your DVD key, you can just, in theory, download it illegal and use your legal key.

However, if you don't have neither DVD or DVD key, you're pretty much fucked in terms of getting it legal :S

This link was provided in another thread. These are direct links to download the ISO file. Speed is good. I am getting 4.2 MB/sec at the moment. So, 12 or 13 minutes for a 3Gb ISO.
