I read somewhere it said you can choose any region you are not locked to any, pretty sure

Yes, Stephen Reid confirmed on twitter last night that people from around the world can choose any server they want, but your performance may be affected.

It will be similar to Rift. Unless there was one server hub on the continent of Atlantis in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean this will not happen. US servers will be Houston like they always are for every company and EU servers in Amderstam

Rift lets you pick on the client which server you want to start a character on.

I'd prefer if it was locked, but I wouldn't mind it really if it wasn't. Won't effect my gameplay that much. ^^

Nope no restrictions but if you did play on a US server as a EU player then you should obviously know that you'll have a higher ping though.

It's actually a much better system this way. South American players can play with European gamers that speak the same language (Portugese/Spanish), Aussie players can choose whether to game on US or EU servers, neither of which is possible in some other mmos.

Why have it region locked?

It works fine in Rift.
