So I am finalizing my gaming setup that I will use next semester at college. I started with a list of products that I WANT, and then whittled that down to cheaper but still effective products. This is what I ended up with:
Dell U2410 -> Asus VH238H (saved $250 CAD for a slightly smaller and less vibrant monitor)
Razer Blackwidow Ultimate -> Razer Blackwidow ($40)
Logitech G9x -> CM Storm Spawn ($40)
Now it's time for the sound system. Since I am in a dorm room, speakers are a no go. Initially I wanted a PC 360 from Sennheiser along with an Asus Xonar Essence SXT sound card - for a whopping $400. I did a bunch of research, and then decided I could save the most money by completely skipping the sound card and buying a high quality USB headset, the Logitech G35.
My question is:
Is there either a better USB headset or a better soundcard + headset (or headphone + clip on mic) combination that I could buy for less than $150? Is there something similar in quality to the G35 but much cheaper? From what I've heard, most other USB headsets sound much worse than their analog counterparts but are still much more expensive.
Surround sound is pretty important to me, and gaming performance > music performance > mic quality. I will be playing WoW, TF2, and most importantly BF3.
Thanks in advance

I'm also looking at the Razer Megalodon, but it is expensive
