These builds are still very relevant and very good builds. Dont buy pre built, if you dont know how to build a PC yourself, there are MANY good tutorials on youtube that can help you out

Everyone around here will suggest you build your own, which is good advice, but people will also suggest you NOT buy Alienware even more. You don't even get close to what you pay for. cyberpowerpc.com and ibuypower.com are usually good place to buy in the states

This is a pre-warning to anyone who wants to come in here and flame Alienware and tell us how overpriced they are. The OP stated that is they type of computer he wants (i.e. a gaming computer); if you're not going to suggest a good alternative then please save your breath.

That said, are you competent with building things (Lego, electronics, cars, models, etc., etc), Xconartist?

I dont think Skelly was flaming the brand, the OP mentioned a brand, and Skelly gave his honest opinion on it O.o. I happen to agree, while Alienware makes great PC's, they're very overpriced for what you get.

alienware are not bad, in fact they're pretty good and nowhere near as expensive most of the time as their competitors such as falcoln northwest, etc.

i've built MANY pc's, and owned an alienware and many other manufacturers and while building your own has it's advantages (one of which is NOT price btw, you usually end up paying every bit as much buying all the parts full retail as a pc builder would get them for wholesale and mark them up for a profit) such as getting exactly what you want, it is also a HUGE pain in the ass a lot of the time and i highly recommend if you do not know how to build a pc from scratch not jumping into it as you can easily end up with a big useless pile of expensive electronic components you have no idea how to make functional. managing the warrenties for every single component is a huge pain in the ass as well. one of the last systems i built the first FIVE motherboards i got were DOA, which required me to completely build the system, find out it will not boot or do anything, tear the whole thing back apart, rebox/RMA the motherboard, wait for a replacement, rebuild the entire thing again, etc. until the 6th one i got finally worked and i was able to finally have a working system more than a month and a half later. since this experience i'm a lot more pro-prebuilt for computers. you order what you want, it comes, working, or else you send the whole thing back and they send you a working one (or if you get really frustrated just get your money back and buy from someone else), 1 warrenty to worry about, 1 point of sale, etc.

that said my current gaming rig i got from ibuypower.com and i'll say this, they take a long time to do anything, you're looking at at least a month or so from when you place the order until you actually have the machine at your house best case scenario (complications in the order will only make it take longer than that) but that said i do think they're awesome, i got an amazing machine for a REALLY nice price. with them you select all the components you want and they just make it work for you and ship you a working pc with exactly what you want in it.

I'm also pretty sure Demon also just said as a 'pre-warning' and being a mod, I think if the rule was broken that poster would've been infracted.

Anyways, +1 for cyberpowerpc if you're going the prebuilt route. They usually don't mark up the price too much compared to building yourself.

Also, to expand on the above. Alienware will get your pc to you quicker, but you can't choose brands for the parts you're getting, you have a lot more options for brands, types, models at Cyberpowerpc, which is why it's going to take a bit longer.

Plus, I'm building a 2500k setup right now through Alienware and Cyberpower. And while I can't match up the brands exactly since the variety is very sparse with them, the difference in price is huge, it's nearly twice as much for Alienware.

Well im going to risk getting infracted or banned but here it is. Alienware makes a great computer, but it is ridiculously overpriced. I specced a desktop of the best that alienware offers with the exception of the OS and a few things i either dont care about or other reasons, and then i went to new egg and tiger direct and specced out a computer with 6 core amd black edition cpu, nice Asus mobo, 16 gb 1866mhz ddr3 ram, 3 tb seagate hard drive, 2 2gb 6950 (iirc) radeon gddr5 vid cards, really nice tower i liked, really good ultra modular 850w power supply, blu ray drive, cooler master v8 cpu cooler, and maybe a couple of small things im not remembering at the moment, and a 27 samsung led monitor. for $2300 with tax for my state and shipping. the alienware was over $7100 with all comparable stuff and a 27 inch monitor.

Also the one i specced to build myself has windows 7 as well

I don't think I stated opinion, I think I stated fact, but I guess I could have stated it better.

When ordering Alienware, in general, you pay a lot for brand and looks, similar to Apple. If you're looking a a good performance to price ratio, I would advise you look elsewhere.

I should have noticed the OP was in the UK when I made my first post.. I don't know much about buying PCs in the UK, but check out this thread http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/912692?p=11640486

I think Aria.co.uk does prebuilt custom systems in the UK. I'm not too familiar with their site or anything, so I'm unsure how to set up a system and paste the specific unique setup here =\

From what I have seen you can get more for less through aria, rather than going through Alienware.

Building your own rig is all well and good, until it doesnt work.....
Yes, some companies do charge over the top for their pc's, however there is the added bonus of not having to worry about "making" it work.

If money isnt the issue and you dont feel that you are comfortable with building your own, you will not regret the aurora. I myself bought an M14x laptop. I built my own gaming desktop. The Alienware from my own experience is excellent.

But do a search around there are companies that will build gaming rigs and it will be cheaper than Alienware.

he time you add a monitor and OS you will be bang on budget. There are more expensive options there too but i think this one is just right and a good price for a pre-built.

Did you really not read what I said?

We all know Alienware is overpriced; this thread is not to discuss if they are overpriced, if they are good, whatever. Yes they're good, and yes they're overpriced.

We are waiting for the OP to let us know if he's comfortable building his own or if he would be getting it prebuilt from somewhere.

Alternate is the best site in the BeNeLux really, their customer support is superb, and they deliver the very next day.
