Will you be playing video games when you're old (60+) ?

Hey guys today an interesting thought crossed my mind. If you think about it we're the first bunch to actually experience such complex gaming (MMO's, playing over the internet etc.) our granddads didn't really experience such great quality gaming and I can't imagine my life without at least spending a couple of hours a week playing some kind of game for fun.

I know some people who are 40+ and still play games and also lead a perfectly "normal" life (wife, kids, work etc.). I personally would find it extremely weird if my grandfather raided by my side with some bloodelf paladin but maybe we're all the future "oldschool" gamers?

I can see myself playing video games until my eye sight goes; or something better comes along. One of the two.

Yes. I honestly dont see myself dedicating this much time to gaming, and then just stopping all of a sudden for no reason. If i love it, why not do it?

I'm hoping by the time my eye sight goes i won't need it to play video games =]

I see no reason why not; sure it may seem odd if "old" people nowdays play games, but that's because they weren't born or ingrained into the culture back the.

I don't see why not. My Dad is 60 and he still plays games. Granted he sucks at the majority of them, but nonetheless he still plays :s

No, I'll be enjoying my life.

Besides by the time I'm 60+, which is in ~40 years, games will probably be virtual reality or something like that, and I really don't want to be a part of that.

Why am I back here, I don't even play these games anymore

The problem with the internet is parallel to its greatest achievement: it has given the little man an outlet where he can be heard. Most of the time however, the little man is a little man because he is not worth hearing.

Will probably need an extra large monitor, for poor eye sight but other wise of course. Know a guy on my server that's one eye blind, he use a 40 something inch TV monitor to play wow.

OK just to clear it up, people born around 1970 are most often referred to as the "original gaming generation" because they were of appropriate age to start playing and appreciating video games (around 10 years old) when the "golden age of video games" (release of Space Invaders, etc.) was happening.

I am not part of this generation unfortunately. I was born after that. I am part of the "original mainstream console video games generation" though. :P ie: Nintendo baby

And hell yeah I'll be playing them until I die

im glad i was born when i was born i got to enjoy the first retro games and all the new games too, those people back in the 70s wasted too much time with those early games who i don't think even deserve to be called games.

Hell yes. My grandfather was always curious and interested, up to the last few years when he started disapperaring due to alzheimers. His eyes would light up when I showed him this tiny piece of electronic wonder that would do awe-inspiring things, and I hope to keep that fire. I'll probably be grounded in what I know, which is mmos', platform games and good music, but I'll never discard new trends on the basis of them being new. I'll take in the good and leave the bad. Just like facebook and twitter don't work for me now, there'll be similar things I'll avoid, but there'll also be things I'll embrace. I hope.

Tough question as I'm right now as we speak not able to look into the future, sadly.
I'll give it a shot though! I don't think I will honestly have just as big of an interest in gaming when I become over 60. I will probably be looking at art, doing cross words, do some garden work and train my future dogs, and I'll be sleeping half the day anyway
I'm more interesting in knowing what games will be like in 40 years, I really hope I survive to see those days.

I'll probably game until arthritis prevents me from doing so. =)

As long as I still enjoy it why not

Been gaming since pong in 1975. No need to stop until my last day on this Earth.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. -CS Lewis
