Gigabyte GTX 550 ti 1GB vs GTX 460 768mb

The GTX460 768mb beats the 550 hands down any day of the week so dont go for the 550

Most cards come with a DVI to VGA converter. Overall the GTX 550 Ti is slower than even the GTX 460 768mb so my vote goes for the GTX 460 768mb.

Despite the lower memory and clock speeds, the GTX 460 has a significantly higher amount of Stream Processors and More Texture Units.

Nvidia recommends a 450W PSU for that GPU:

It could be a close call - it all really depends what other components you have and how good/bad your PSU is. If you have a good quality PSU it will/should work just fine.

The 550 Ti name seems to be doing its job. The Ti designation and higher number was chosen to fool people into thinking it's better than the 460 and let Nvidia charge the same price.

It's no better than the 450 and it gets beaten by cheaper 5770/460 cards.

If yes, then you will have to get another PSU. And if anyone is suggesting a 2x molex to 4/6pin adapter don't listen to them.
Also, what kind of computer are you planning this upgrade for? What MoBo and CPU do you have?

Right now, given you have a moderate CPU and a MoBo with a PCI-E slot, your best bet seems to be a 500W PSU and the 460.

Yeah that's my power supply. I'm not sure what my mother board is, but my CPU is Athlon II x4 635 2.9Ghz and my ram is 4GB and an extra PCI-E slot.


Will this PSU work on GTX 550 Ti? I will most likely purchase the 460, but if I cannot and I go with the 550, I just want to know if my 450w psu will work on it, because it says it needs 400w, but my PSU might not be a good brand.

Your PSU will not work with either card. It's pretty mediocre.

The PSU I suggested (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...27&Tpk=corsair 500w) has 2x6+2pin PCI-E connectors which is what you need for the 460.

They are for external power and they typically are used from the Power Supply. The PCI-Express slot can only manage 75 watts so for cards that use more than the 75 watts it requires external power from 6 Pin or 8 Pin.

Careful with what you are suggesting. That PSU with the 550 means he has to use an adapter as it doesn't have a PCI-E power connector (not even a 4pin). Not to mention that it would most likely not perform optimally as that PSU is certified for 75% efficiency.

Amperage directly correlates with wattage. Amperage x Voltage = Wattage. His PSU has 21A on the +12V, which is 252w.
