    HDD/SDD raid, advantages?

    okay, so buying a computer tonight its a powerhouse of an laptop, however when choosing hard drives, i get a couple of hard drive raid options, one of which is the standard, from my intel raid has something to do with the drives working together to up the power and speed, can someone explain the advantages or if any disadvantages of the raid setup

    on a sidenote, this is my options

    Single:
    256GB Solid State Drive SATA 3Gb/s [add $300.00]
    Raid 0:
    1TB RAID 0 (2x 500GB) 7200RPM Solid State Hybrid [add $50.00]
    1.5TB RAID 0 (2x 750GB) 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s [Included in Price]
    512GB RAID 0 (2x 256GB) Solid State Drive SATA 3Gb/s [add $800]
    Raid 1:
    750GB RAID 1 (2x 750GB 7200RPM) [add $0]

    RAID 0 = data is split across multiple drives, the loss of one drive means the loss of all your data, slower than any SDD that isn't terrible

    RAID 1 = Data is mirrored from one drive to multiple drives, the loss of one drive means it can be replaced the data mirrored back on to it. Does not do the same job as a separate backup, fairly useless in a laptop I'd say unless you need 100% uptime and travel a lot with it.
