    LF 24 inch monitor

    Hello guys/girls.
So I've decided to upgrade my old 17 inch monitor to something better.
Turns out it's not so easy to choose a monitor when there's gazillion of choices available.
    What I'm looking for is:
    24 inch
    IPS
    LED
The IPS part, well... I guess some1 can explain what is it exactly, I'm not 100% sure, I just know that it's new and good stuff
I like this one, but it's 23 inch, and hoping to find something as good as this but one inch bigger: Dell U2311H
    Thanks in advance!

Edit: is it a big difference between 23 and 24 inch? If not, I might just stick with this Dell... idk.
Edit2: monitor is going to be used for playing WoW and watching movies.

Check this for the differences between TN and IPS panels: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TFT_LCD

IPS has beter and more colors and a wider viewing angle.

If you have the money for a IPS screen, then you should get it. these days every screen 22" and above have a minimal 1920 x 1080, so for the resolution it doens't matter what you choose, but how bigger the screen how better you can scale stuff from games like wow. 24" is nice if you have a viewing distance 80cm/100cm.

Furthermore: Get a LED screen also. LED produces more light then conventional, gives better colors and black will be blacker and white whiter.

    LED IPS = Win !

    169 bucks ain't too bad.
You can tell WoW changed the MMO for good when players started complaining about the amount of time they sink, into a time sink.

That's LED right? Too bad it isn't IPS, but otherwise yeah nice monitor, I'll take a deeper look into this one, thanks.
Edit: I'm a little confused, it says LCD monitor, LED backlight. So that's LCD or LED?

    LCD = Liquid Crystal Display

LCD screens need a light source to be able to work. LED is one of the possible sources, also the newest and best source. LED comsumes a lot less power and gives better colors.

wow nice looking monitor but not IPS
Guess my best bet would be to go to shop and see what's the difference between IPS and TN IRL

To be honest, IPS screens will be better at full HD movies, photo editing and video editing.

Games usualy don't have that much color in them anyway, so the real difference between TN LED and IPS LED will show at real life stuff, but a lot less on games like WOW.

The wider viewing angle IPS gives isn't worth much if you are sitting right in front of it for 99% of the time. So for gaming a TN LED panel will be great enough, but if you can get your hands on a IPS LED screen that is about the same price... Take that one! You will love it for the blue ray movies.

That's the thing... I can't afford 24 inch IPS, I can however 23 inch. Or I can buy 24 inch TN... So I don't really know what to go for... 1 inch less but slightly better movies/photos quality or 1 inch more with slightly worse quality...
What would you guys go for? I do watch movies, I do have a lot of photos, but I'm not a professional photographer or anything. Hard decision.

I plan on buying the U2311H (23 inch IPS) myself.
I don't think you'll notice the 1 inch difference, so you'd better go with the improved image quality.
As a side note, the response time on the IPS panels is higher than the TN panels, but most people suggest that the difference only matters in FPS games. (I'm not really sure, never had an IPS panel before, nor I play a lot of FPS :P)

If your viewing distance is about 50-80cm, then 23" is very nice for gaming. For watching movies it depends if you keep sitting in the same place or do you move more back, like you would be sitting in the livingroom like 2 meters? If you stay at the same 50-80cm spot, then 23" will be great for movies also. At 2 meters movies will still be nice, but a bigger screen will be better. But not really THAT much difference in 23 or 24".

You sure? One person said that 8ms IPS = 5 ms TN, so it would be opposite :O

Nah I stay at the same distance whatever I do, be that games or movies, I just have to go back home (tomorrow) and see what's the distance exactly.. but since my current monitor is 17 inch I'm assuming I'm sitting quite close to it.

Monitors are really cheap. If you can spare the xtra money go for a 26", its a world of difference.
But soon after Mr Xi secured a third term, Apple released a new version of the feature in China, limiting its scope. Now Chinese users of iPhones and other Apple devices are restricted to a 10-minute window when receiving files from people who are not listed as a contact. After 10 minutes, users can only receive files from contacts.
Apple did not explain why the update was first introduced in China, but over the years, the tech giant has been criticised for appeasing Beijing.

For gaming I don´t think the xtra price of IPS panels is worth it over TN.. Samsung Syncmaster 27 inch screens are awesome for gaming.

I'm afraid that's a bit an over kill for me.
To Zkeya: yeah you're right, TN = faster response time than IPS, checked on internet.
S-IPS/H-IPS panels are generally considered the best all around panel type, but they are more expensive and very few are made. High end, expensive.
TN panels are very cheap and have the fastest response times, but suffer from inferior color reproduction, contrast ratios and viewing angles. Low end, inexpensive.

But it's still 1920x1080 resolution. Isn't it like trying to play 800x600 on 2 meters wide TV? ^^ (Just less absurd) Oh and that's LCD.

I don´t get what you mean? It´s still 16:9 format and 1920x1080 is plenty of resolution.. Sure you can get IPS panels 27 inch at 2560x1440 but where I live that costs 2.5 times what the syncmaster costs, and like I said imo not worth it if it is for gaming. No movies come in that resolution either. Just my opinion though

Do not worry about response time. 8ms is still very fast en hardly noticable in the heat of the game/movie. with 12ms or higher you might notice shadow movement or blurry stuff, because the pixel light doesn't change to another color fast enough. With the first LCD screens about 10 years ago this was a major issue. These had like 20-25ms and you would see your mouse pointer having a tail when moved quickly.
    Do not worry about 8ms.

for resolution: Yes, the pixels are bigger on a 27" screen. But with 2.073.600 pixels they are still very small and thus 27" will also be very nice to play on. Big but... If you sit to close to a screen, then you'll be watching a tennis game. You would need to move your head/neck in order to cover the whole screen. This will get you tired faster. Healty is when you only need to move your eyes to be able to cover the whole screen. So 27" and a viewing distance of lets say 50cm is killing.

It is very important to choose screen size to the viewing distance at your desk.
