Okay so i was just curious as to how the product key works, If i am wanting to reformat my PC before doing so do i have to go online somewhere and take off the product key on my desktop showing that i am the owner? I don't want to reformat my PC and then putt in my product key only to get a "Currently in use" Message or something.

You can just install new PC and activate it online if you stop completely using the old version. If you try to use two PCs with same CD key it will at some point (probably after 30 days) deactivate both and initiate the antipiracy countermeasures* on both computers and blacklist your CD key.
*Computer will automatically shut down after 60 minutes, and you can't change wallpaper from black screen that says your Windows is pirated.Never going to log into this garbage forum again as long as calling obvious troll obvious troll is the easiest way to get banned.
