    Looking for a SSD disk

Its time for me to invest in a SSD disk the best upgrade I can do to my computer atm

So I wonder what I should get?
Im planning on having Win7 + WoW on the SSD disk and then all other stuff on my 1TB disk, (will invest in a 2TB too after a while)

First question is how much space, around 60 or 120 :S
atm windows folder is ~20gb and wow ~20gb, so its enough with a 60 or I want around 120GB to be able to run all smooth?

If you have any suggestion on what disk I should get, plz link or so always nice to here some suggestion^^

(im from sweden, so swedish site's would be best)
    /thx

60GB is probably a little too small. 80GB or larger will suit you better. You'd be surprised at just how much random crap will fill up your space.

Also, it helps to know whether your motherboard supports SATA 6Gbps. People can give better recommendations then.

A 60gb is not enough. Windows + the usual set of applications will eat 20-25gb, WoW is 24gb with a fresh install and some addons. To get the most performance out of an SSD you're advised to never really fill it beyond 75% capacity (it's to do with how the drives do garbage collection/TRIM, and wear leveling to extend the life of the drive).

I had a 60gb drive and with both Windows and WoW on it, performance rather quickly degraded to the level of a regular HDD because it just wasn't big enough. I've since picked up an OCZ Vertex 3 120gb and it remains blazing fast with over 65gb of stuff on there. My only gripe with the Vertex 3 was that, intially, it didn't play nicely with my overclocking and took quite a bit of effort to get it to do so. If you're not overclocking however, you should have pretty much zero trouble, provided you do a clean Windows install on the drive (Windows changes some of its configuration options during install if you have an SSD, to help get the most out of it).

One final thing, before you install Windows on that drive, I'd recommend making sure your SATA controller is running in AHCI mode, as that will also make a fairly major difference to SSD performance.

I do agree on getting 80GB+ though.
Well I will lose all loading time + load windows faster and as its my disc thats its the slowest in my rig atm I think I will notice alot as I dont get any game to lag yet so^^

Ty both for the answar =) will check it up later too see if I find any cool

I recently purchased an OCZ Vertex 3 120gb and have been extremely pleased with it thus far. I'm already considering purchasing another drive the next time I see it on sale.

so what type would you guys recommend? is the "OCZ Vertex 3 120GB" the best way to go? or any other option?

I can get a OCZ Vertx for around 2000 swedish kronor, and other down to 1700 sek..
If the OCZ disk is really good I would rather spend the extra 15% cost

Apparently there have been multiple problems with the Vertex 3, but I never actually heard any problems with the Vertex 3 Max IOPS. Try to get that one instead.

If you don't have a motherboard that supports SATA 6Gbps (aka SATA 3), there's nothing gained by buying a SSD like the Vertex 3 that's designed for SATA 6Gbps. You'll do just as well with a Vertex 2 in that case.

Edit: OK, you will see "better" performance from a Vertex 3 on a SATA 2 port over a Vertex 2, but remember, the SSD will basically only improve the load time of the OS and the game, not as much improve playing the game itself.

Get a 120GB, and the Vertex series is the best. If your motherboard has SATA3, get a Vertex 3, and if you only have SATA2, a Vertex 2 is fine. If you may possibly upgrade to a new mobo soon, you might want to go ahead and be sure to get a 6GBps drive.
Remember, the more free space remaining on the drive, the faster it is capable of being.

SSDs are not hard drives. The term "hard drive" is short for "Hard Disk Drive" (HDD).
"SSD" means "Solid State Drive", not "Solid State Disk".

If you have a SATA 3 motherboard, I would suggest the Crucial M4 series.
Sandforce drives are afflicted by many defects and are not very reliable overall (e.g. Vertex 3).

Crucial's SSD are well built and cheap. Their robust proprietary GC management more than make up for the lack of over-provisioning.

You should check out the Intel 510 as well. Pretty much the only recently released SSD that hasn't had any major problems.

I just recived my new computer 1 week ago. I got a Intel 510 120GB SSD and it runs oooooh so very very smooth, and is not a part of the recent series of SSD with hardware trouble :-)

Go with Intel 510 and go 120GB

If you can spare the cash, go with the Vertex 3 MAX IOPS or Patriot Wildfire 120GB versions, they use a different NAND which is just superior in every way to the regular Vertex 3 variant.

Again though, Vertex 3s have their issues but not because they are made by OCZ, but because of inherent instabilities in the SandForce controller, other brands with the same configuration have the same issues.

disk or drive, dont care, ppl understand =) so a either a Vertex 3 or a Crucial M4 I guess im so lost about all the diffrent, so all help is good, or a intel 510^^

Intel drives are stable, but have their own issues aswell.
A quick google search reveals all.

My recommendation really is to get Patriot Wildfire or OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS, though Intel isn't as bad either just not nearly as fast as the first 2 mentioned.

    over-simplified sum-up :

    1) Vertex 3 : fastest SSD on the market, users report many issues due to Sandforce controller.
    2) Crucial M4 : Overall slower drive but cheap and very reliable.
    3) Intel 510 : Faster than M4, reliable too but more expensive.
    4) Patriot Wildfire : performs well but Sandforce 22xx as well (like Vertex 3)

There are distinct differences between No. 1 and 4.

Vertex 3 uses 25nm NAND memory with a SandForce 2281 controller.
Vertex 3 MAX IOPS and Patriot Wildfire use 32nm Toshiba Toggle NAND memory with a SandForce 2281 controller.

The latter are superior to the first.

Yes, that's what I meant by oversimplified
Sandforce 22xx is still plagued with inconveniences though.

Also don't stare too much at what's 'faster', even if one ssd is slightly slower than other one it's still blindingly fast compared to usual HDD so I'd recommend going for the reliability/price angle more than speed when making your choice.
