After seeing the trailer (Smashing Pumpkins rule) I was super hyped - the music totally fit...

So I researched into it finding out about the graphic novel. I read this and thought it was FANTASTIC. I watch the film and thought it was aweful beyond words, I couldn't believe I'd wasted money to see it. There was none of the magic and the soundtrack was just plain whack. I mean "Hallelujah" during the sex scene - THE most covered cheesey track ever (don't get me wrong, Leonard Cohen is a legend), I had my head in my hands when the flame started jetting out.
'You can't give her that!' she screamed. 'It's not safe!'
IT'S A SWORD. said the Hogfather. THEY'RE NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE.
    'She's a child!' shouted Crumley.
    IT'S EDUCATIONAL.
    'What if she cuts herself?'
THAT WILL BE AN IMPORTANT LESSON.

I was shocked at how well they stayed true to the comic (minus the ending as you already mentioned like how Dr. Manhattan approached Veidt). Jackie's playing of Rorschach was just how I would imaged it would be like when I read the book 10 some odd years back. Overall I loved it. If you can watch the extended edition, it makes it even better.
