The difference in your minimum fps will be very dramatic. Though, without getting a new video card, you won't be able to crank up your settings.

You can get much more performance out of your cpu if you can afford the switch to an i5 2500k. It'll last you a lot longer as its a quad core and the i3 is only dual.

The switch to i5 2500k tends to cost around $250-300 btw. Closer to the latter.

I assume from the link that you're Swedish, so I'll use komplett.se

    i5 2500k - 1768 swedish moneys
    Gigabyte z68x-ud3-b3 - 1349 swedish moneys
4gb corsair vengeance ram (assuming you don't have ddr3) - 329 swedish moneys

That's altogeter 3446 kr, and 1 kr is about 10p, so around £350, €400. I'm sure there are better sites to get your parts on, but those parts are pretty solid.

I cannot afford an i5 so i'm wondering how much difference in performance it would be if i switch my E5500 dual core CPU for a i3 2100 CPU? (FPS wise, can i play with ultra or high or something in 25man firelands or wat?) i don't know why ppl bring up i5 instead.

Without knowing what your other computer specs are, it's hard to estimate how much impact changing the processor out would be. That being said, WoW responds VERY well to CPU upgrades, so upgrading your CPU will definitely have a noticeable effect on your game performance.

The reason the i5 was brought up, is that it's not a whole lot more expensive... and the performance is much higher. So if you can't afford to upgrade to an i5 now, it may very well be worth it to wait a month to upgrade later.

All of that being said, upgrading my CPU from an E8400 to i5 2500k and NOT changing my graphics card allowed me to take my settings from Fair with 20 fps in raids to Ultra with 40 fps in raids. Your results, obviously, may differ

We bring it up because its a substantial improvement over the i3 (which is an even bigger improvement over everything else). You didn't mention any kind of budget so we're free to speculate.

I highly doubt a GT 440 is going to let you play on High.

well with my current specs i can play in 10mans on full ultra with 50fps so i don't see why 25man would be so much worse if i upgrade my cpu.

I'm sure it was suggested because you didn't mention a specific budget and the price/ performance on the i5 right now is the best as well as the fact that it'll will last you much longer in terms up needing an upgrade. As has been said you'll notice a difference but I don't really think it's going to be all that much and you won't be able to up your settings, I think as Skelly said it's the GPU that holding you back there.

if i can play with full ultra and 50fps in 10man firelands with E5500 dual core CPU why can't i play at decent settings with a new cpu? Anyway if i'd buy an i5 2500 CPU how much would my performance increase in 25man firelands? wat settings can i run stable at with a high amount of fps so i wont lagg anything?

Are you by any chance playing at 800x600? Your pc would struggle to get 15fps at 1080p on full ultra outside of raids.

You can play on Ultra with a GT440 or HD6570 the trick is to play at 1680x1050 or lower resolution, AA off and shadows off. That is while using an Athlon X3,X4, or i3 2100. I was sitting steady at ~40FPS in Orgrimmar. In raids you would tier back to high but still be able to play at 25FPS+.
