    Another one bites the dust

So I've played this game for four and a half years and its been a blast for the majority of it. Nearly the entire time I spent playing this game was on a ret paladin and I have no regrets about that. From my early days of Karazhan, Magtheridon, and Gruul to clearing 6/7 heroic Firelands, I have seen it all. From the highs of slaying the ultimate bad guys like Illidan, Kil'Jaeden and Lich King, I have enjoyed my time immensely, but its time for me to move along. Prentice is officially retired.

Recently I find that I've been struggling to find the motivation to log on. I'll try not to QQ too much about the current state of things, but this is not the spec that I have loved for almost half a decade. I completely understand the developers wanting to go a different direction and I applaud their efforts. While there are still a few glaring flaws with the spec, it has certainly evolved and matured. The days of whack-a-mole WotLK ret and Seal of Casino TBC are long gone. Seal-twisting, Judgement of Seal of Blood one-shotting me, and automating my Divine Storm procs are all a thing of the past.

Now I know better than anyone that I wasn't the best ret out there, but I was decent and I'm okay with that. Spending the last 9 months of my time in this game watching grossly undergeared players of other classes out-perform me simply because of the spec I chose has worn me down enough to make the decision to call it quits. I'm certainly not hating on those other players. I was the stupid one for continuing to play a spec that I knew wasn't going to cut it in the long run. I made several posts on the WoW forums with my opinions, but as you would expect they were unanswered. Changes need to be made, numbers need to be tweaked, and the developers need to realize that ret pallys(most) never wanted to be rogues.

I'll tie off the QQ there. Because I will no longer be playing WoW, I will no longer be needing the services here at MMO-Champion. Despite my tiffs with some of the big dogs here, its been a lot of fun. I've really enjoyed the community of the pally forums over the years. I've learned a lot here and it definitely made me a better player. For those aspiring to reach new heights as a ret pally, you simply need to ask. There are still quite a few excellent players that frequent these boards and most are more than willing to offer their assistance.

Best of luck to you all and thanks for the ride.

Always makes me sad reading or hearing about someone quitting.

Well, good luck in whatever you plan on doing.

I just don't get why people feel the need to post these walls of text, especialy on an unofficial forum where their 'last call for help' reaches no-one.
Just don't play if you don't like the game, come back when you think you will again.

Because this is a community where the OP has spent a lot of time, probably made some friends, and overall helped this forum, there is no point to not say good-bye to friends.

Sorry man. I know how you feel. I loved Paladins so much I leveled two on separate realms in TBC and they were my mains up until the whole Holy Power thing came into being. I never liked the chunkiness of having points generated at random or the fact our fillers never fit in well with our core ability. So I retired them too.

All I ask is why not reroll? I know it is sad leaving a friend but you can start a new project?

I can understand completely, as I used to absolutely adore Ret Paladins, and have recently retired my own. But as Ret.

I can see the frustration and the efforts of old not yielding any results in the new forcing you to feel like you should quit, however, as one said, why not re-roll? Try something new, something fresh. That's why we ROLL alts ... for something new and inspiring and fun when our tried and true grow stale.

As much as it sucks not being able to perform as well as you remember on a long-time main, each class has its own uniqueness that allows for a lot of growing room and respect.

Not even necessarily re-roll, but perhaps try a new spec ...? I despised healing in phases, on and off, since Vanilla, and then hit a huge streak of lust for Retribution mid-way through BC and Wrath, but always went back to Holy because it was so refreshing. We might not be the powerhouses we used to be, as either Holy OR Ret, but sometimes something different will respark and rekindle why you continued for so long to play this game.

Hell, I hated Hunters with an undying passion, and am currently enthralled by my newest Hunter alt because it's such a difference from playing a Paladin.

    Just a thought, I suppose.

As much as people like to argue that this game is lacking lately, I still feel like it has much to offer if you're willing to look for it and try enjoying other avenues.

Then again maybe quitting will work out, who knows. I just find it funny, well, not necessarily funny, perhaps odd, when people quit simply based on the fact that the one [or one of the few] classes they've played for eons isn't working out the way they think it should or the way they are used to.

Regardless, good luck in your endeavors, regardless of your choice.

Always sad to see the vets go.

You could always reroll if you really like dpsing. Or better yet, go prot, it plays very much like ret but is a whole lot more fun and comes with the perks of being a tank.
    Garrosh did nothing wrong.

Have you seen the state of raiding protection? I've been tanking using only crusader strike since the hotfix.

Good luck with everything Prentice, you've been a wonderful help to all of us.

Bye Prentice, moving on to another game or quitting overall?

you have issues with one spec... but me as a shaman felt like i've been in a carusel since tbc. played all specs pvp and pve and I quited wow at start of this expansion becouse resto wasnt enjoyable at all in raids(again it wasnt becouse it changed and it was hard or whatever, it wasnt enjoyable and it was more then frustrating to play in blues) and not to mention it was not even competitive as in blues I was doing 12-13k hps and paladins and druid were doing 20k+.

Anyway.. got back 2-3 months ago to play some pvp with friends and also leveled my frost dk and did some heroic dungeons with it. In my first zandalary I managed to pull 16-18k dps on bosses with proper cd usage while using 2 buttons and having green/blue gear... that made me so angry seeing how retarded some classes can be... If you want to be competitive in anything in wow... thats just not gonna happen if you play some class that isnt powerfull in what aspect of the game you want to play. It has become less and less enjoyable for those that want to play a class/spec that is not "op".

I've stopped raiding about 3 months ago and quit forgood 2 weeks back aswell, never been as good on other classes as I was on my ret so rerolling was never going to happen so I just stopped, subscription ended 2 weeks ago and now just waiting for the Old republic, funny thing is I don't even miss playing as it felt alot more like being forced to log on to raid then actually wanting to.

i've tried to quit a few times, when I run outa things to do... and then im left with a week or so to think about playing, and something i havent done yet always comes to mind. this happens about once a month now, for nearly a year.
If you love / enjoy WoW in its current state, don't bother with my signature...with all due respect, its not for you. (note: I am happy and respectful though, of your enthrallment with WoW... if not a little envious!)

    Hi OP,

I can see where you are coming from.
I've was playing ret aswell for quite some time untill the latest patch in WOTLK where they changed ret with Holy Power, which obviously sucked hard.
I re-rolled then to Protection and did that for sometime untill i noticed PVE was nothing for me anymore.
Re-rolled again to Holy and went on to hardcore pvp-ing which was a big change from pve, i started enjoying the game again since PVP was totally new for me and i found my lust again to actively start playing the game.
Along re-rolling holy, i also started 2 alts: a mage and priest which i am having a blast with.

Just trying to say if you want something fun again try something new, you might enjoy it ^^

    Goodluck to you!

I feel you, Prentice. My first 70 was a Retribution Paladin and I loved it even when it even when it was "weak" but I god help me, I did it well. Cataclysm's class changes were a major overhaul, yet- debatably- necessary. I feel like they cut us short yet again, and it served as one of many reasons for me to leave as well. Nothing could really compare to way I felt playing the class so a re-roll wouldn't do me any good, especially after having done it all before. Just glad I got to see it the best before putting it all behind me.
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Bye Prentice! Take it easy .

I quit cold turkey a week and a half ago for the same reason.

Thanks guys. To the ones that suggested re-rolling you should see just how many characters I have. I have played my max level priest as holy, disc and shadow. I have spent time on my 85 shaman as resto and enhancement. My 85 Dk saw playing time with all three specs. I haven't played my warlock at max level since TBC. Playing my warrior was fun, but I just don't see him as being something that will keep me playing. I re-rolled from alliance to horde when wotlk came out and I hated seeing all of the cool stuff my old main had that I couldn't get anymore.

As for holy, I might be one of the worst holy pallys of all time. Not only do I/did I suck at it, I didn't enjoy it at all. I cant think of the last game that I played for more than a few months so 4 years and 9 months was a pretty long ride. I'm good with this decision and I'm sure I can find something else to keep me occupied. That college degree that I never got might be an option now. We'll just have to see what happens next. Thanks again.

Here's hoping for a better future concerning ret!
