I have a hard time choosing between Android and iPhone.

Not sure if this is the right forums, but I feel that computer is the best forum for this kind of question.

I'm getting a new mobile phone soon, but I'm not sure whether to choose an iPhone or an Android. I'm studying programming and would love to be able to make apps of my own. However - I'm studying Python. I heard Android is great for novice programmers (that don't know much of C language), on the other hand, apparently I have to develop multiple versions of a game so that it can be used on all mobile phones that run Android, so it'll be extra annoying work.

So what is the best mobile OS (or whatever it's called) for a soon-to-be-programmer? Of course I want to have long battery times (I travel a lot) and good phoning quality.

I haven't a clue about programming or whichever would be better for that, but smartphones in general do not have long battery life. At least not when you do anything besides calling and texting with it.

Maybe add a poll. I think Android is better, but i can't justify it.

Android. Even if you do have to develop multiple versions of a game so what? Better practice for you! Plus if you know anything about technology ( I should hope so ) you will realize that you can get a much better Android phone than an iPhone for a much better price!

Battery life with smartphones your looking at roughly 1 day( /wave at htc desire hd) if you use it. If your 'gaming' + wifi you can drain it in less.

Currently i wouldn't buy a iphone 4 its way behind the others it was good when i came out but currently its just overprice.

Idk if you need to write for every mobile but i doubt that because android has a huge range i guess its more spec wise some off the older Smartphones are maybe not powerfull enough. They are running all with the same android versions maybe some different firewares but i doubt you need to design the game every time again rather some changes here and there.

Next has not rly alot to do with Post:

About the iphone 5 well we dont know any real specs yet. Imo it should come atleast with a dual 1,5ghz and maybe dual gpu chips.

The critical point is the battery i hope we can finally see 2000 or 3000 mah batterys with the same size as the 1500mah we have currently. and let them finally start to implement OLED(samsung s2 got it alrdy) on all the phones (60% off the power my htc desire hd uses is just the screen).

Well I'd say Andriod, but I'm totally biased towards Android. Mostley because I'm bitter about previous experiences with apple products, and the way their business model works.

Android OS is far more common on devices than Apple's, so if you want a decent sized market, there's your answer...

Doubling the capacity for the battery while keeping the same size... is actually really difficult if no new technology comes out.

As for the AMOLED screens, of course the Galaxy S II has it, the original Galaxy S does as well. Samsung MAKES those screens. Many of their other phones use it. And on THAT note, with Apple going after Samsung pretty heavily in Europe and getting some of their devices banned or whatnot, I don't see Samsung sharing that with Apple. If Apple even wanted it that is. They would likely need to go elsewhere if they wanted it.

Depending on what provider you're with(assuming AT&T or Verizon) the iPhone is currently a very sub par product for the price. As a developer of apps myself Android does not require multiple versions for different hardware. The only time you program differently is per OS, if you're looking for a superior phone Androids have the latest technology in terms of hardware compared to the iPhone 4.

The iPhone 5 looks to be taking much from Android in iOS5 so it is definitely looking to be a major contender but with Apple's stringent rules and regulations I still look at Android coming ahead in terms of forward compatibility because of the more open source platform they run.

In my opinion, go Android, get an Infuse (if on AT&T) or wait for the Galaxy S2.

On the Galaxy S II note, it should be here next month. Unless you're a lucky bastard in Europe and already have one.

Android for capabilities iPhone for apps/looks (though android market has a lot of apps it doesn't compare to app store). Galaxy S II >>> iPhone 4 any time for me (but iphone 4 is prettier).

this applies to phones as well:

when looking for a tablet i went with the ipad, because it was the original, and wasn't a cheap copy of something else, that meant it had all the original features and wasn't using a cheap method of bypassing some patents, this is why apple still has the best touch screen interface, there is also the compatibility issue, apple has 80% of the marketshare last time i checked, this means a majority of apps and accessories are designed for iOS and apple devices, not that this is a good thing, apple has awesome hardware, but their software will piss you off to no end

iPhone 4 has a different type of screen, almost like comparing an IPS to a normal HD screen, they have different benefits. The Android and iPhone markets have very little difference in amount of apps, but 83% of Android apps are free compared to 25% of iPhone apps, sure the iPhone has free versions but they're LITE copies instead of the full app.

    I phone 4

    Operating system (OS): IOS 5
Applications available in the apple market: 300,000+
    I phone cost: Expensive.

    Pros:
    300,000+ App's
    good screen reolution: 960x640
    Good quality 5Mp camera

    Cons:
    Really expensive.
    No memory expansion card slots.
    Cant change the battery.
I phone is the only phone that runs IOS.

    Android:

Operating systerm developed by google and its growing rapidly. Also recently google bought Motorola so we can expect better phones in the future.Atm Android phones sell better than Iphones.
Latest android version is 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
Cupcake 1.0, Donut 1.5 , Eclair 2.0, Froyo 2.2, Gingerbread 2.3, Honeycomb 3.0 and up (only available on Android tablets, not mobiles), and the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0

    Pros:
    200,000+ apps
A large variety number of Phones to choose from which have a memory card slot.
    Cheaper than I phone.

    Cons:
    mm nothing really.

The best android phone in the market is samsung galaxy s2 with a 1.2Ghz dual core processor and 1Gb ram. Iphone 4 has a 1Ghz single core A4 cpu and a 512 ram.

Most of the Android Mobiles Use a Snapdragon Processor.
A few Use nvidia Tegra 2 Processor which has a seperate game market from Nvidia, cuz tegra 2 processors deliver better graphics as well.

I would recommend buying an android or waiting for the I phone 5 which is due to be released in oct/ november and see how its like, but at the same time other android phones are being released as well, one with a dual core 1.5Ghz cpu and LTE 4G technology (HSPA+ 46Mbps theoritical download speed which uses a 1900Mhz radio frequency I think).

Just because the majority of people use something does not make it any better, the sheep will follow the other sheep.

Except the AMOLED screens on the Galaxy S line and some other Android Phones. They don't quite have the resolution the iPhone4 does, but god do they look better. And Blacks are really Black.

I say this because comparing IPS vs the other standard panel types, IPS wins in the quality department. Retina Display vs Super AMOLED is a whole different comparison.

That's what I was comparing IPS being AMOLED screens and HD being iPhone screens, the majority of people don't know that IPS or AMOLED are superior in looks to the more known retina or HD.
