No it isn't shallow. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder the vast majority can agree on what is MORE beautiful out of two persons due to this lovely thing called sexual selection, your genes are biased already no matter how politically correct you wish to be. Why is it shallow to base selection on appearance instead of lets say personality? This is a very stupid assumption to make.

Just because it's both objective and reasonable doesn't mean it isn't shallow. Basing any decision on one single factor, especially something as absurdly superficial as looks, is pretty foolish, and yes, shallow.
