If you like space exploring, killing monsters, saving planets and sexing up aliens then Mass Effect 2 is deffinetly worth playing... it's such an epic game

So just play ME1 first or you'll be hugely diminishing the fun you'll have in ME2..
I don't see how I could have enjoyed it any more than I did. The interactive comic let me make decisions from the 1st game. It allowed me to choose whether or not to kill the Rachni queen, to save Wrex or not, to save the Council or the fleet, love interest, who to put in charge of the Council and whether or not to save Kaidan or Ashley. The fact I enjoyed it so much is proof that I don't have any need to play ME1. It's like saying I need to listen to a band's first album to appreciate the second one. No, it's entirely enjoyable in its own right.

While you don't technically NEED to play ME1 before ME2, it does make alot more sense lore-wise, plus you can carry over a saved game, which gives you the option of choosing one of the several different classes as opposed to being stuck with the default lame one.

Bought it for 2.50 on Steam sales, I do not regret it the slightest.

No its more like you need to read The Fellowship of the Ring before reading Two towers. It is possible, but you will miss a lot from story and little things that made this game 10/10.
