Computer Hunting - Suggestions and Evaluations wanted [United Kingdom]

I had the pleasure of my computer dying yesterday, I'm currently looking for a new computer. However, since this was unexpected, I'm on a budget.

    I don't want to push £600. I don't need a monitor.

    My friend has suggested: http://www.ebuyer.com/269042-hp-pavi...op-ll284ea-abu

    AMD Phenom II X6 1045T 2.7GHz
    6GB DDR3 RAM (3x2GB)
    1TB HDD
    DVD±RW
    ATI Radeon HD6570
    TV Tuner + Remote
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

My other friend is against the ATI Radeon HD6570, saying it's built on "ancient" architecture and isn't great, regardless of it being DX11.

I want to play games such as WoW on full settings, L4D2/Dragon Age 2/Witcher 2 and such games on respectable settings. I don't think I'm interested in any "heavy" games (ie Skyrim) that are coming out soon.

    Thanks for your help.

I would honestly prefer to get a custom built computer for the pure fact that they are easier to maintain when they need a clean over the dodgy cases you usually get from a dealer like dell or hp.

If you do want a hp or dell machine i would also tell you that upgrades on your machine would be next to impossible as the cases themselves usually do not allow for any extra devices as they come with the minimal hardware on the motherboard they need usually.

As for a video card i would probably recommend an ATI Radeon HD6850 minimum for any type of gaming as it runs newer architecture and is going to last longer than the 6570 for price vs performance.

Are you or you'r friend okay with building it yourself? because then you can get a better (possible alot) computer

    No. No building.

    What about: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/comput...y-delivery/42/

That's a pre-built "custom", so I assume this is open to upgrades in the future. It's cheaper, as well.

No building , under 600 eu ... this is nonsense, go ahead buy that outdated HP with tv tuner lol , you rly need a tv tuner. Also preinstalled windows... SWIM can get them free.

Mod Warning: Post more constructively. If you would've read the opening post you would've known your post makes no sense at all.

hmm, id change the PSU to 600Watts, since idk if 450 s sufficient for the hardware you've chosen

    Intel 2100
    4gb RAM
AMD HD6850 Graphics Card (6770 if you want to conserve)
    450W power supply

    Choose a case as desired.

Worst case scenario: Machine is a little slower on games that are heavily multithreaded.

Best case scenario, which is the vast majority of cases - machine is faster in games and vast majority of software, requires less power, and can be configured to be far more silent. The Intel 2100 is regularly run on passive air cooling with 3rd party coolers.

Went with that, thanks DarkXale. I kicked the hard drive up to 1TB and kept the 6850.

Did you only suggest dual i3 due to money constraint or was it not worth going up to the quad i5?

That was due to the money constraints. If possible, the i5 (2500k) is a solid buy - as it shifts between being the fastest existing gaming processor and a 'top 3', depending on the title.

Dear mod my post doesnt make less sense than OPs at all ,
imma let you finish but allow me to explain this to you

    >his computer broke
ok , we are dealing with it
    >he wants a low badget new one aprox 600
    ok , sounds fair
    >he doesnt care to play crisis on max settings or other high end games.
ok fair enought for a 600 badget
    >He links on premade HP(hp stoped making pc as you might/might not know) that is pretty much waste of money
i explain why its crap on my reply
    >Few posts above he stated "no building"
    (insert my post here)

I hope i explained it to you mr mod good enought , from your side i'd like these distracting red text removed from my post and few more respect to the community in the future. Feel free to use reply button instead of edit next time please.

Okay DarkXale, thanks very much. When money comes in, I'll make an i5 one of my top considerations.]

zodiacgk, I may be stepping out of my boundaries, so take this as a user-to-user chat. You don't discuss moderation work in a thread. PM them if you have an issue. Personally, I did not care for your sarcastic and non-constructive post.

I didn't care for your sarcastic and non-constructive post.

That aside, the i5 and the i3 are both more than capable of dominating WoW's full settings. The i3 beats out most quad-core AMD processors as well. Really, unless you go into more graphic intensive games, it'll be more than capable. If you move into games that are very requiring, or do things on your computer other than game.. then the i5 becomes more and more beautiful. The Core-i5 2500k is by far the best buy for the price of *any* processor out there... but if you don't need it's level of power, its value decreases significantly.

That makes sense, see if the post of the guy you were trying to defend was as objective (well, the second part) as yours, this would have been a delightful thread.

I take it that when discussing games and such, this is all on max settings? After playing every game (inc. WoW) on minimum, I can probably last awhile with the i3 then. Can it run "Crysis"/ Skyrim/ etc at medium/low settings?

not to sound rude , but if you're not going to build there is absolutely no advice you can get. All prebuilts are just as useless, and costly as the next.

Not true to be honest. You can find as good prebuilts as you would get by building yourself for sure. It's mostly matter of taste if the prebuilt doesn't have the exact same components as you'd had hand picked. As far as the costs goes, yes it will be more expensive. You'll 99% of the time build a cheaper pc by yourself.

Now don't confuse a general term 'prebuilt' for some avarage hp you buy from the supermarket. A lot of pc stores sell their own prebuilts that they've made themself which are capable of being just great. Plus those can usually be customized if you contact the store and become even better. This all costs more than building your own but that should be obvious.

Other alternative would be buying the components yourself but paying for a computer store for assembing it.

Ibuypower, etc are NOT considered prebuilts.
