    It's good. It's overkill, but it's good.

    A single GTX 580 is probably about 4 times better than a single 9800GT.

    4 times? You are talking bullshit. Learn something about newer series.

    What is wrong with that ? I probably know more about the newer series than you do.

    This isn't really a situation where you can put 'times better' on it.
    The GTX580 is a different architechture and meant for a completely different generation of games.

    In some older games you will notice no difference at all whereas in the latest title the difference is so huge it's like night and day.

    Question is, what games are you playing? As then people can decipher if the GTX580 is a worthy upgrade or if a different card might be a better option.

    It's an enormous upgrade over the 9800s.

    HOWEVER

    The 580 has been out for a good 6 months now and the 6xx series is due "this quarter / very early 2012"

    The 680 has been rumoured to be roughly twice the power of the 580 since it's a new architecture not a revision card like the 5 series so if you can hang in there just that little bit longer you'll either get much mroe for your money, or a very nice price drop.

    Or get 2x MSI N560GTX-Ti Hawk for the same price.

    GTX580 is tiny bit more powerful than a SLI pair of GTX460 1GB's -> http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/305?vs=314

    1GB GTX460 is about 2-4x more powerful than 8800GT depending on game -> http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/180?vs=178

    9800GT is renamed 8800GT with slighly lower power drain and noise.

    Therefore, Single GTX580 does 2-5 times higher framerate than SLI of 9800GT's depending on game.

    http://www.nvidia.com/content/HelpMe...asp?lang=en-us put the 9800 and the 580 in the compare field and there ya go, a 580 is nearly 4 times as good as one 9800, so even if you get a true x2 performance boost from having two (which usually isn't the case) one 580 is still nearly double the power.

    PassMark rates the GeForce 9800 GT at a score of 915 and GeForce GTX 580 at 3,891 so hes pretty spot on.

    interesting. if the 6xx series is gonna be a whole lot better than the 580, then might as well wait.
