    Mass Effect 2 Worth Buying?

I never played the first one and don't have an xbox to try it out. Is it worth buying Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 or will I miss out on too much of the backstory, gameplay mechanics, and "decisions from the first game" that they talk about?

I am a huge fan of KotOR2, so I assume I would like Mass Effect 2 from what I am reading.

    Thanks.

You can play the second one without playing the first one, but I'd recommend playing both. I started playing the 2nd one first and I caught on just fine. But yes, you definitely should play it. =)

I made a topic about this in the past, and now i get to answer the question.

Yes. Its worth buying it, it has an amazing story and the gameplay is pretty well done too. So yeah, go ahead and buy it, you wont regret it

PS: Obviously, Play the ME1 first and then play ME2 (in case you havnt played ME1 yet)

It was worth the money I spent on it, despite my dislike of quite a few of the changes.

    FUCK YES IT IS

    Ahem...sorry about that.

The game is fantastic. Play the first one as well so you understand the story better and you can pick choices that progress into the second one. Don't do it the other way because the mechanics change so much it's wierd to go back sometimes unless you've already played the first one.

with out a doubt yes it would be worth it but i would greatly advise picking up the first one... i believe u can get it off steam for the computer.

mass effect 1 is available on the xbox dashboard for like £10 - its really worth it, you can carry your char from mass effect 1 over to 2, and all the choices made in me1 make impact on me2

Yes, I'd consider Mass Effect 2 worth buying.

I'd play the first Mass Effect before I played Mass Effect 2 though, they are both good games.

If you have absolutely no choice, then you can play the 2nd one w/o the 1st one.

But you would lose out on a lot of the history and atmosphere in the game. Plus a lot of the stuff you did in ME1 influences ME2, many characters know you, some don't appear unless you helped them or hurt them in the 1st part etc.

Why don't you play both on PC? It's not the best game for consoles anyway imo.

My big holdup is only having a gaming computer and PS3, not an xbox. Am I going to miss anything if I play the first one on the computer and second one on the PS3? Are the controls any fun (easy to use and intuitive, not clunky) on the PC version of the game?

EDIT: Anyone recommend just playing both on PC like zealous said?

I despised playing Mass Effect on the console, although I never tried Mass Effect 2 on it. I always prefer PC for games where I have to shoot things, but that's just my personal preference.

Dude, just play both on PC, I guarantee you lose nothing.

I don't even own a console and I played through both of them on my PC, the 2nd part and it's DLCs - multiple times and I loved both games.

What would the benefits of playing on a console be anyway? Unless you're a huge fan of controllers over mice/keyboards or smth.

P.S. I think the first part would be kind of awkward on a console actually due to dialogues and hotkeys.

I'd say, as of posting this, it's one of the top 3 modern rpgs, along with Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

Anyway, OP, just play both on PC.

Go the logical route of ME1 to ME2, it'll make much more sense and be much more interesting.

Just don't spend too much time on the side quests in ME1, the ones where you land on random planets (unless you really need money/xp), because they are the only major suck in that otherwise great game.

I'd play the first and then the second. They're both great games but i'm in the minority liking the first more. Getting it on the same platform is a better option because of the continuing story but maybe that's just me. Granted I just started The witcher again after buying witcher 2 coz I lost my saves, there goes an extra 50 hours of my life.

anyone that likes RPG's should try: (kotor 2 was not made by bioware btw)

    Kotor1
    Mass effect 1 and 2
    Dragon age 1
Waiting for SWTOR (Star wars: the old republic)
