Halp, Soundcard won't fit!

so for my HTPC i got a new soundcard because i needed Optical SPDIF out for my receiver, and the motherboard did not have it. so i got a simple 20 euro asus PCI soundcard. HOWEVER: I can't seem to get it to fit. i have no idea why, but i simply can't get it in, not even while applying above average amounts of force.

here's a picture that illustrates my situation. The problem is, The bold red underlined part of the PCI card just won't seem to fit in, i can only get in the other 2 parts.

more or less this.
there was a piece of aluminium from the case blocking the actual outer connections (not the standard piece you have to remove obviously, but a production error), brute forcing that with a screwdriver enabled me to fit it perfectly.
