    Generate Latency Log

    Ok.... Slightly different to normal....
    Here's the story:

Just moved back into uni, paid my £150 for my 50mb broadband, becuase the free 4mb was giving me some really high latency.... surprise! It didn't help... still getting some really spiky latency in WoW.

So what I'm looking to do, is generate a latency log from World of Warcraft... (seeing as this is where the difference will actually be felt, it makes little sense to be testing against a server that is geographically remote to the main one affected.) In order to get my ISP to sort out their service and prove that there is actually a problem and it's not just a perception issue.

Running traceroute in OS from your computer to the realm's IP is what you need to do. Both during normal times and especially when high latency occurs. That will help you map where in the connection the problem lies... In your Uni or in ISP or some outside issues in underwater cables going from UK to France.
Never going to log into this garbage forum again as long as calling obvious troll obvious troll is the easiest way to get banned.
    Trolling should be.

If they don't mind gaming, you should contact Blizzard to get a list of IP's that your uni should unblock. It's not necessarily just the server IP, but that would be a good place to start.

Essentially, you want to rule out the university itself as a source before you start talking to the ISP.
They don't or at least... they haven't for the last 4 years that I've been here. The IP isn't blocked...

You would be correct about making sure the Uni isn't blocking or throttling certain ips or packet types, if I was "on campus" but I'm actually classed as "off-site" as although the hall is partnered with the University it's still operated privately. (Which is the typical way in England)

My problem is that my latency is super "spiky" i.e. it varies from anything around 10ms to 3,500ms which is why I need a log. I have run a series of Speed and Ping tests, but they don't really give me much in the way of conclusive results:

The traceroute at various times generates alot of un-needed data, and doesn't show exactly when the spike occurs, (I have used this connection during term times with a typical latency of 10-20ms for the last 4 years so i'm pretty sure the network is solid. A Latency log over a period of 10-15 mins should be fine.

PS: If you really think it'll help here is the tracert for Draenor EU timed: 01.28am 23/09/2011 with a reported in-game ping/latency in the region of 3,000ms
