MSI Afterburner for recording (free) or Fraps.

For video editing there are Video Vegas and Adobe Premier. Also Windows Movie Maker and iMovie. Also check my post here.

For encoding video I'd recommend using Any Video Converter (free).

I acctually have fraps and it was working fine. But for some reason it quits the film and starts a new one when it hits 4gb. Any idea why?

Windows has trouble dealing with files over 4gb so fraps will always split them just to ensure this problem doesnt arise

4GB is FAT32 limitation, it's there to keep Fraps compatbile with older versions of Windows as well as transfering files into USB discs.

For editing it does not matter one bit as you can just put the pieces back to back into timeline.
