Misfits - really great dark comedy "superhero" series, some of the most WTF moments ever
Shameless(remake) - just finished it today, its dark comedy/drama again but really good with great cast and acting, awesome story and awesome characters. Must watch.

Sons of Anarchy - this is probably my favourite current tv series next to Game of Thrones. If you like motorbikes and rock music chances are you'll like this series. The series follows an outlaw biker gang called Sons of Anarchy, inspired by motorcycle gangs like Hell's Angels. The first few episodes can be quite cheesy but the actors and the plot quickly pick up. The acting is superb and has both interesting plotlines and characters, not to mention the soundtrack (if you want a good idea of what the soundtrack is like youtube 'This Life - Sons of Anarchy Theme Song'). The fifth series is set to come out in Autumn 2012 and I personally can't wait for it.

X-Files - can't believe that anyone hasn't mentioned this yet! The X-Files is one of the most iconic sci-fi series of the 90's, with the two main characters 'Mulder' and 'Scully' investigate supernatural occurances as members of the FBI. The theme song also give me chills and is well known to people that didn't even watch the series when it was aired. There are nine seasons with the first seven being the best. Not much else I can say about this show other than I would definitely recommend watching it.

There's plenty of others worth mentioning (Sherlock, Band of Brothers, Breaking Bad, Pushing Daisies, etc), but these were the two that I felt deseved more attention than they were receiving.

Scrubs and Chuck are by far my two favorite series that I would recommend to EVERYONE. (sadly they both ended )
Awake is one of the best shows I've seen in a while, it didn't get renewed for a second season which makes me really angry!
I also just started watching Nikita and it's actually a lot better than I expected.

I basically watch every show on TV but the ones I named above are the ones that I would recommend for you to watch.

Edit: I just scrolled up and saw someone said Misfits. Funniest show I have ever seen! Can't believe I forgot to mention it! ;]

These aren't the spoilers you're looking for.

    Move along.

If you're into the whole supernatural (with a tinge of space & time in it) I highly recommend:

    Doctor Who
    Torchwood
    Fringe
    Supernatural (derp)
    X-Files

    Out of this:

Prison Break (Season 1 if amazing, season 2 okay, but from there its kinda well eh)
    Kyle XY

Edit: Dexter, how could I forget Dexter!? One of the best series out there!

Good luck in finding something good to watch!

Coraline, it's a movie by the same guy that wrote Stardust

then I have to echo Lily, Dr Whot and Torchwood are both top notch, and despite its age X files is still just flawless (plus Gillian Anderson is hhootttt)

Then I would say the same three shows I recommend to everyone, regardless of the current conversation ;p
Firefly: Proof if you needed it that fox are evil. They cancelled this show, which had more potential than anything 5 shows running now put together.
Battlestar Gallactica: the new one, not the campy old. It's one of the finest Science fiction shows ever.
Farscape: the best show I have ever seen. It was voted the second best Sci Fi show of ALL TIME by the sci fi channel, only beaten by the original Star Trek.

I highly recommend you watch Sherlock. There are only 6 episodes, but they are very very well done, by the same people as Dr Who, but the episodes are movie length. Roughly 90 minutes each.
