Dominion Tier List

TheOddOne posted yesterday, on solomid.net, a guide to Dominion, where he analyses all champions currently avaliable. This is an organized tier list based on his opinion. Thoughts?

PS: characters in the same tier are in alphabetical order

I agree with most things, but Karthus god tier surprises me, as I have never seen one in my ~25 games.

Karthus is incredibly difficult to push on, he can defend a node from 3 people by himself with his annoyingly long range Q, and even if you kill him, he can defend it for another 3 seconds.


I disagree with almost all of these placements, but to each their own.

Karthus: Great defense (even if you kill him, you can't cap for another couple seconds) and global ulti.

Cass is ranked high because her damage in dominion is absolutely absurd. I went 2-7 as Cass last night and was 120% the reason my team won. I was laning Ryze bot and was smashing him so hard, not only one, but two of his allies had to come help to save the node. I would get two people to 10% and die due to them kiting me, but the amount of pressure I put up was enough to split their team so that my allies could 4v3/2 top and take nodes all game. Came back from a 150 point deficit to win. Nothing they could've done really, they needed a champion that could stop me 1v1, and it just wasn't going to happen.

Anyway, I don't really believe in "tiers" like this anyway. All champions are good if played properly, this includes the team they fall within. Some champions are great with any team, sure, but Ashe, Sona, Kayle, Teemo, Veigar, Amumu are not the worst champions in the league.

Yes, all champions can be properly played, but that doesnt mean that all characters played at their best are equally good. That's what tier lists try to classify. League of Legends is patched almost once per month, meaning:

1 - It is unbalanced as it requires constantly rebalance updates
2 - It is unbalanced due its unstability

I can write about this forever, but I don't want to make this thread a "tiers are real!" fight. Unbalancement is a natural consequence with assimetry of options, this is a basic concept of game design. You can find several articles about that in Gamasutra, if you want more info about this.

What I can agree with you is that tier lists are not "set in stone". Dominion came out a few days ago, of course that's not the definitive list, our knowledge about how to play Dominion is very poor right now. You can be right, Amumu might not be the worst character in the game for Dominion, that's why I'm proposing this thread, to discuss it.

One problem I've always had with the MOBA genre. People think they can put the meta game down in ink, it just isn't possible. You would have to write books on every single champion to describe when they are good and when they aren't, trying to make a list in five minutes just doesn't cut it.

If the purpose of such a list is to try and explain which champions are stronger in the majority of the situations they get themselves in, then you might be on to something, however, a list like this is only going to dissuade people from playing Ashe on Dominion when she can be perfectly valuable to a team. And, furthermore, for those of us who DO feel like playing Ashe, people who read this list will go "WTF" and either leave at two seconds left on the countdown or just flame the entire game.

It's clear there's a couple champs that are just way weaker in Dominion than SR or TT. Take Nasus as an example: not getting to farm up his Q basically makes him so much less powerful.

Most of the times, it'll still boil down to your team setup.

TheOddOne argues that Wukong is a "weak version of Trundle", but I disagree. Wukong seems very strong in this map, I would put him on A tier too.
I haven't seen enough Yoricks to have an opinion.

The metagame can be seen as the best strategies that we know, giving the currently technology. You don't need to consider all possible scenarios to judge a champion, you need to consider the scenarios that are viable, and then the ones that will happen more often.

Of course, technology can change. But that happens in every single competitive activity, not only MOBAs. If you're suggestioning that we shouldn't discuss strategy because of that, you're losing a lot by not sharing information and engaging discussions. I hope I misunderstood you.

I might have not been clear.

My goal with this thread is not to impose this tier list (which, again, wasn't written based on my opinion), but to discuss it. If you feel that Ashe is good for Dominion, you're welcome to explain the reason, maybe you know strategies or team comps that we're not aware.

It's all a matter of opinion. I for one disagree about Irelia being A tier (She needs to be higher), and I just feel that most of the champions in the lowest tier really do excel on Dominion - and that's where my opinion is differing from TheOddOne's. It's just that he/she took the time to write it all down and get it out there so that people have a relative idea of who is good/bad (in this specific person's mind) on this map. There's no true right or wrong, good or bad - it's all a matter of perspective and how someone can play that champion.

Riven doesn't have the same mobility or damage of the "S" or "A" tier champs. She's got a higher than normal base speed, but her damage isn't exceptional at all.

Well I wouldn't disagree about Wukong being weaker than most, he is still my best Dominion champion, if I just want a quick win I'll always play Wukong.

I see people play Ashe all the time in Dominion. She can't be that bad. I also haven't played Vlad yet in Dominion, but his main benefit that is self healing takes a hit with the crystal scar buff, so he might be lower. Wukong I see all the time, he could be higher. Fiddlesticks should also be higher. I've seen him just destroy people. I'm sure I could go on, but I've barely seen some of these champions in SR and TT and never in Dominion, so I can't really make too many suggestions.

Last thing, I have been doing fantastic as Yi, better than I do on Nocture. I'm a bit unfamiliar with Nocture still so I put him on the line between S and A, but Yi should be higher.

Yorick is quite powerful in Dominion. Played with him once, he was afk for like 5 mins from the start of the game (and we were losing badly all that time), when he returned we wrenched victory with ease

Being lower level (12) and pitted against people in my rage, the game is different I guess. I rock and roll in Dominion with MF/Wukong/Panth and have been rocked by Poppy/Yorick/Warwick
