    MW3 and Pepsi Partnership

First off, I didn't know if this should be it's own thread or within the official MW3 thread, but I figured it was different than basic game information, so I made it its own thread.

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertco...over-the-line/

Anyways, it looks like MW3 and several food companies are partnering to let players effectively buy additional XP. Products like Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and Doritos will have codes the you can input to gain bonus xp for a short time. Personally, I don't like this at all. Partly because of the boost people are going to get in game by artificially buying things, and party because of the food products this is placed on. There may be some good potential if MW3 was partnered with healthier products, such as mini-carrot packs or other potential candidates, but this is just going to help contribute to health problems that kids and teens have from unhealthy foods. I'm not bringing this up out of hate for the MW franchise, I actually really enjoyed MW1 and 2, both single player and multiplayer.

    I... uh...

Okay, look, I'm going to preface my thought on this by saying that I'm not about to claim that no people above age 13 play Modern Warfare or some silly insult like that, because we all know that's not true. I'm not insulting the Modern Warfare games or anyone who chooses to play them.

But... honestly from all their advertizing so far, it's like Activision are actively trying to pursue that. No people above age 13 playing, that is. Point in case being that they chose pepsi brands and not, like you said, something healthy like mini carrots. Which group would find a campaign like that "uncool" and be less likely to buy the game if they signed it, but will have nothing against the Pepsi contract? Exactly. Children.

I wish this wasn't the most lucrative way to sell an FPS these days. EA are doing it too.

Oh wow I didn't see this before.

Luckily for me my mass amounts of killing enemy players will balance out if not exceed all of the XP people will be getting from buying those products.

Sure, there will be that guy who is 9th prestige on day 2 because he went to Cosco and bought 2 pallets of Code Red and a shed full of doritios. Regardless, all that crap won't make him better than me.

I should get bonus XP for buying Greygoose and Disaronno.

I don't see the problem. I buy those thing anyway, getting bonus xp in a game for doing it only makes it taste better.

I'l be selling the codes for 50% of the products... :>

Who cares. Haven't bothered to stay updated on MW3 but if they mess it up like MW2 with no dedicated servers then you'll sooner or later find yourself in a game with xp hack that takes you to max lvl in one kill and after the game just go to next prestige lvl and stay in that lobby for 10 games.

Yes let's promote a game known to be played for hours by 13 year old kids by telling them to buy junk food for free time. Child obesity is non-existent, right Activision?

but parents are also to blame for being gullible fucks and buying 20 packs of soda and a mountain of chips for their kid to play in the first place

Well since you haven't kept up with MW3 I'll help you out.

There is dedicated servers on PC. And then there is this -

    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/113334-Modern-Warfare-3-Getting-Dedicated-Anti-Cheating-Teams

Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward's creative strategist, says that the studio has learned its lesson from previous Call of Duty games, and is taking extra steps to curtail cheating in Modern Warfare 3. Bowling says that MW3 will have dedicated teams that look for anyone who is cheating and deal with them accordingly.
The teams won't be the game's only line of defense though; Bowling says Modern Warfare 3 will have improved code that checks for people using hacks in game, as well as using Steam's VAC - or Valve Anti-Cheat - technology. "There's been a lot of work put into it. I can't go into specifics. On a general high level area there's so much more stuff that we've locked down and made less accessible than we had before," he said.
"It's also about our ability to take action when stuff is wrong so we've done a lot of work in our ability to update the game more quickly and efficiently than we have before," he added.
While it's not deliberately designed to do so, returning to dedicated servers will also go a long way to keeping cheaters out of people's games. Having a dedicated server won't stop cheating directly, but it will allow admins to boot the offending player out of the game and let everyone else have their fun.

OT- I wonder if diet variations of the soda are also included... It would be nice if they hooked up with Fiji or Evian.

This would be true...if anyone played MW3! zing

On a serious note, I think it's a terrible idea but it's great for business. Pepsi is probably paying a decent amount for this, but do we really need more kids eating crap? In all honesty I don't think it will increase sales that much, but instead of buying Coke, people will buy Pepsi next time they need soda (if they're interested in the promotion at all). I guess it'll increase Pepsi sales, but what I meant was that it won't increase overall consumption by much, it will just change what product they purchase. Bad promotion? Sure. As bad as everyone is making it out to be? I don't think so

My main disagrement with it is I don't agree with extra in game advantages for cash. Also, kids don't need any more motivation to become butterballs.

I wonder if there are special badges / achievements for something like entering in 100 pepsi codes:

    Congratulations. You've unlocked 44" waistline!

Kind of interesting, good to know that if i go out and get a pepsi drink during my normal day, when i get home i get something out of it.

    Better than nothing

I don't know why I'm shocked, because we know game developers are out to steal all your moneys, but with millions of pre-orders for a $60 game do they really need to offer in-game bonuses for junk food? I...I don't even know what to say.

It is kind of interesting to note that Uncharted 3 is doing a similar thing (Buy a drink from Subway get the multiplayer a month earlier) and nobody seems to be making a fuss over that :S
