    Fable III

So Fable III is on sale 66% off on Steam ($16.99) and I am considering getting it, but have never played any games in the Fable series. What kind of game is Fable III, what type of gamer is it geared towards? I'm not a big gamer, mostly:

    Really Enjoyed
    WoW
    SW: Battlefront I and II
    Portal I and II
    Warcraft II and III
    Batman Arkham Asylum
    Dragon Age

    Somewhat Enjoyed
    League of Legends
    Half Life
    Star Wars Republic Commando
    Star Wars KotoR

The original fable was an excellent RPG-Adventure....more along the lines of the Zelda franchise mixed with WoW. Combines fantasy story telling, simple combo-button-mashing combat and a pretty strong RPG element (items, stats, classes etc.). Although, Fable III didn't recieve nearly as strong reviews as the first two games did, so be wary...

It's kinda like Fallout but with a magic and medieval setting. If you like first person RPGs that involve quests and a story line you'll probably like it. I didn't think it was amazing, but it was still a pretty good game. I've never played the first 2 though, and I've heard from players that did that they were better.

Its unfortunate to hear than, I loved the 1st one. Haven't been into console games since I got into wow though now that I got a new super tv I am replaying Gears of War and gonna work my way to the current one, might check out Fable II after.

The first one was definitely the best of the three, and I think Fable 3 is the worst of the three. The series has been on a steady decline in quality.

If nothing else, the first one is definitely a must-play. It's well worth it.

I don't know why it has received such bad reviews... I played it when it came out and I thought it was quite awesome... very very fun to play... the story isn't so great... it's more like comical but that didn't really bother me... the gameplay is kinda like in fable 1... I mean the combat ... except the magic system which I can gladly say is that it's the best magic system I have seen so far in a game... and apparently the guys @ Bethesda agree with me since they kinda implemented it(or a very similar one) in Skyrim...

Honestly, I thought the 2nd was worse than the 3rd. The multiplayer in the 2nd was god awful, but with the 3rd it was much better, the biggest reason I played the 2nd was to play with a close friend, and moving to the 3rd was a much better experience all around, for both of us.

    It wasn't a bad game...but it wasn't great either.

I enjoyed it, and even played through a second time(Once as good, once as evil). But without spoiling anything, the difference it makes throughout the game was pretty disappointing.

The combat is pretty fun, so there's that.

Is it more single or multiplayer? To be completely honest I very rarely play multiplayer games except for console games at home with irl friends (WoW being the exception, and even then I do a lot more quests and soloing old content than multiplayer) If it doesn't have good single player game play it is a definite no for me

Both are fully single player, the multiplayer is like co-op single player.

Honestly, i enjoyed 3 better than 2. Nothing beats the first one though

This. The 2nd one was the worst of the series. It was too short, way too boring, and they overdid it with lens flare. Fable 3 was a major improvement, in story, gameplay, and graphics. The only problem is your moral choices play such a minor role in the game, and again, your physical changes due to morality are extremely weak (ie: if you're evil, you look like a goth, while in Fable 2, evil characters have Deathwing-like skin and giant devil horns).

Multiplayer isn't needed at all unless you want to get achievements or play with a friend.

Its a pretty decent game, worth the price of the sale easily.

Well, the moral choices sounded really interesting, but if they are downplayed in F3 that is no longer a selling point. Still, at $16.99 it's an hour's worth of work, so even if it isn't enjoyable I'm not out too much.

Still undecided though, really wish there was a demo

You don't need to play the original Fable to enjoy Fable 2 and 3. There will be certain things in the story that you won't get, but overall each game is self contained. I would actually recommend starting with Fable 2, as it's the worst in the series. I know that may sound strange, but if your expectations are low, Fable 2 and 3 are pretty decent, Fable 3 especially.

They both are complete garbage compared to the original however. If you play the original, and then go to 2 or 3, it will be an exercise in pain just suffering through them. The original Fable + Lost Chapters is so much better it makes Fable 2 and 3 seem like shit. If Fable 2 and 3 did not have the Fable name, and were completely unrelated to the original, they'd have gotten much better reviews. They both suffer from the original being so completely badass.

I've never played multiplayer on any Fable game so my opinion comes from a strictly single-player point of view. lol

All it's worth is 16$ to be honest.

However it's still 16 dollars well paid. If that makes sense :P

It's very short, you can easily finish it in a day or two. It kind of feels like a game that had big dreams but decided to cut out all content down to the bare essentials. Makes me wonder if Mr.Cleese cost half their budget.

    Fable > Fable III > Fable 2.

I think that pretty much sums it up. I enjoyed them all to some degree, but certainly Fable/Fable III more than 2.

In some small part because F2 was 360 only.

Fable was really good, Fable II was kind of meh, and well I saw a lot of bad reviews for the third one that I never even picked it up.
