I agree with Deneweth on his points, personally I am looking to put together a set with more expertise and hit on it just in case it becomes useful in the future.

Incoming damage is definitely the main concern at present, whether you are doing heroics or raiding.

    Good point!

I can't believe some of the misinformation that gets spewed here, I'm not sure if people actually belive what they say or they don't know better and think wrath is still the way things are done.

There is a huge Master vs Stam thead on maintankadin.com
It goes something like this. At 10% dodge and parry, Mastery becomes a better stat until 102.4%. This changes fight to fight but if you are unbuffed its acceptable to use mastery/stam gems in yellows. The other general rule is
    Blue - stam
    Red - Parry/stam
    Yellow - mastery/stam

If you are gemming stam, you are probably doing it wrong and causing your healers to waste mana.
If you are putting hit/exp on your gear, you are doing it wrong....Threat is a HUGE non-issue and if you say you put hit/exp on your gear due to low dps..you are a fool, your extra 1.5k to 2k dps you "MIGHT" due probably won't the reason you get a boss down. That lies on the DPS and they need to get better. STAYING alive, keeping the boss on you at this point is what tanks need to worry about. As we know, the enrage timer is healers mana!

Oh and for the time being, the meta that offers 5% block is broke. Its 2%, blizz knows this and has confirmed this. So at 2% its better to go with the extra armor gem, cause we all know with mob pathing, mobs never get behind you right? this helps with that as well.

    @ Chasey
You just talked against your self, or did i miss your point just totally?

What you say about gemming etc is just true. And i am quite sure I've said that myself.
But for our threat stats, they will be needed more and more as the new tiers come.
    Not needed yet (!).

This is because the bosses will gain "lvls" for every tier, recuiring us as tankses to get abit more threat and dps'ers to heighten their hit and expertise to not miss or get dodged / parried / blocked.

no one should worry about next tiers. with new tiers will be new sets of epics with new sets stats on.
lets not derail this too much but right now threat is absolutely no issue.
In heroics the only way DPS is pealing off me is when they don't bather with my marked priority kill order and start hitting something I am not. and even then getting back on top aggro position is a question of 2 maybe 3 GCDs with current health pools every DPS should be able to survive that
In raids (not too much experience there, went to BH yesterday) I had DPS creeping up on me at around 80% TPS while I was swinging happily with 2% hit and around 22expertise. I was missing a lot. It didn't mater at all. Since taunts cant miss now missing few swings is not that big of a deal (Unless you are doing tight progression where tank doing 1k dps more is difference between kill and wipe).

right now after inspecting top raiding pally tanks I am happy with geming +stam, +mast/stam, +parry/stam but I am tempted to switch to more mastery based strategy

    thoughts?

My prot pally has ~23% avoidance, and 60% block (ilvl 350). I gem using the 2nd set that you listed.
The other main tanks in my guild take ~30% more damage than I do on most fights... and I self heal more than they do... so needless to say, I'm easy to heal lol. I have 164k hp buffed, which is plenty considering the low amount of damage I take, and how smooth it is with all the block.
If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One... now I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds.

I don't get how I talked against myself. You must have missed the point. Point being threat is pretty easy. Sure some DPS are starting to creep but not many. We have tools to fix this, IE...Salv, BoP taunt and if they still really need to pass you up, let them die. They will learn to control THEIR aggro! Oh and if you worry more about threat than staying alive ask you healers how thats working?
If you are focusing on hit/exp at this point in game, you are more worried about not looking bad to your RL or DPS you run with than doing your job and staying alive. Be a team palyer do your job the right way.
