Chimaeron 10m HC - Feral DPS tanking in bear form?

    Hi everyone,

we will be attempting Chimaeron HC this weekend and unfortunately we lack a DPS DK. So, is it possible to have our cat tank him in bear form during the mixture phase while one of our "real" tank taunts him for the double attack?

I would appreciate any comments and suggestions you might have. Thank you.

I do it fine as a fury warrior, people have this (annoying) mindset that you NEED a Death Knight :P. However I would suggest that IF Druids can taunt in Cat Form then Bear form is unnecessary (unless you need the threat), but yes going Bear form and tanking would be ideal

Every class that has a taunt should work equally fine. (assuming sufficient threat)
Druids could even be better as they will most likely have more avoid due to their high amount of Agi, although this won't matter much.

Biggest problem would be the lack of armor and crit immunity. Cats generally don't have those two talents and they're pretty essential for proper tanking. But give it a go?

I believe it's a talent for all the tanking trees now ? that 6% crit immunity

I fail to see why either of those things would matter. ANYONE can tank chimeron as long as they get 10k worth of heals between attacks he cant kill them.

More armor is not going to mean much when it is the difference between 100k overkill, and 120k overkill, since both attacks would still leave the druid at 1 hp regardless. Same thing with crit immunity. A normal hit or a crit will still take you down to 1hp.

Chimeron is basicly desigened so that avoidance, armor, block, EVERYTHING about a tank that normally is important is made irrelivant simply because the only thing that keeps them alive, the only important element of surviving a hit, is if they have 10k+ health before the hit lands.

We use a ret pally popping RF to MT non fued phases, then the 2 proper tanks tanking furing fueds. So I wouldnt see any problem with a kitty dps in bear form doing it.

Edit the ret tanks with a 2hd still, so even though more advoidance is useful not necessary

Yes, but as a cat, you won't take those two talents. The way the encounter is designed makes that irrelevant, due to the fact that you only need more than 10k life, so it doesn't matter if you're critted.

Regardless, those talents are pointless, at most, a cat might have 1/3 in one of them, and 0/3 in the other.

Grats on showing that you have 0 clue in terms of the game mechanics on this fight. If you want to random guess in a hm thread go to thottbot or some other forgotten site, sry no go post on elitistjerks and get banned...

If you use a 3 tank tactic in 10 men I would suggest starting off as bear since the dps will be nuking hard straight off the bat, it might not be needed with md, tott etc but If you end up having dps holding back it won't be worth going catform. After the 1st fued phase you can prolly go cat since the tank threat should be solid as a rock (dps in the fued phase won't be imba due to the hit debuff).

We pretty much have the same "problem" in our 10 men but we go with 2 tanks. There is another thread about chimaeron hm where 2 tanking is well explained for those that don't have a plate. We could use our moonkin as feral but gear/skills means a substansial dps loss and 2 tanking is very doable. Can be done several ways, the most important thing is to coordinate your healers and tanks and /pray to the rng gods.

Thank you very much for the input. I think my question has been answered.

    This is correct.
Although avoidance is still valuable since taking 0 damage from a melee swing means 0 healing is necessary assuming the break tank is properly topped off above 10k between melee swings. Also avoidance is very desirable in P2 - if you get lucky, a tank with high avoidance can hold Chimaeron for quite a while before being gibbed.
