You run three screens (or more) from one card in landscape-mode, for surround-gaming, at huge resolutions. With three 1920x1080-monitors, you play in 5760*1080.

Unless you get the FLEX-card from Sapphire, you have to use at least one monitor with Displayports, or use an active DisplayPort-adapter.

Eyefinity is something ati launched that allows a single graphics card the capability of running more than 2 monitors.

I have been looking into getting eyefinity with a 6970, should be a pretty nice setup. Normally graphics cards can only run a maximum of 2 monitors each. Eyefinity actually allows for as many monitors as the video card has connections, and i think the 6970 has 5-6 connections.

The bonus to eyefinity is the software can split your game screen onto the second and third monitor. So rather than playing on your primary monitor only, the game has your primary monitor, with the monitor on the left and the monitor on the right extending your view area. The original image is not stretched, there is actually new data added to the left and right monitor, it basically gives your a panoramic view of the game, and looks AMAZING.

no, it's a technology that lets you run 3 monitors from a single graphics card, Nvidia has a similar technology called surround, but it requires two gpu's, amd's is better software wise, and nvidia's is better hardware side

You know, the post above you answered that question already. But, ugh. Eyefinity is NOT the video card. It's a technology for ATI/AMD cards. It takes 2+ monitors of the same resolution and makes them look like one giant monitor to the computer. This enables fullscreen applications to stretch across all your monitors. Without eyefinity, you could still use multiple monitors, but fullscreen applications could only maximize to one monitor.

Annnnnd, a quick google could have told you all of this.

I solved this by settling for screens with native Displayport.

Now I just need to convince myself that the cost of three 23" (~ 326USD each), and a HD6970 (~522USD) is justified. D:

    EDIT- silly me. The HD6970 doesn't cost 419! It's 522!

Looking at your character, I know what you're trying to do! But you shall not sway me!

No, she wants 3 monitors that have the same resolution as those TVs. Far more practical too.

Wow, y'all really do have higher costs in Europe.... you could get a GTX 580 for that much here (I don't think I want to know what something like a 590 or a 6990 would be over there )

Also, is gaming on multiple monitors really THAT much nicer than doing it on one? The screen bezels between images would bug the crap out of me... but that's me. If I ever wanted multiple monitors it'd have to be something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wMBS_bfkFk&NR=1

The cheapest HD6990 I can find that are actually in any retailers stock is 856 USD, excl shipping.
A GTX590 that is actually in stock is 901USD, excluding shipping.
Now, do you see why I hate Newegg?

Hah, yes. Silly Linus. But the bezels are fine with bezel-correction. It's awesome in racinggames, for instance. Some shooters as well! It would bug the crap out of ME with an even amount of monitors though. IE, one bezel in the middle

thats mostly a matter of opinion, but i will say this, every one of my friends who i've let play on my computer are all getting triple monitor setups now, combined with a good 7.1, the gaming experience is intense to say the least

and the bezels stop bothering you after a while

You are a better person than I am.
And I don't even have half as an insane computer as you do.
(besides, people CAN'T play on my computer. They apparantly feel that ESDF is as weird as I think WASD is.)

That, OR you can use two Nvidia cards. (was mentioned already but in light detail) There are some situations where that's a much better option.
Perhaps you've already got a decent Nvidia card, like a 460, 560, 570, 580, etc (basically a card that's too new to replace)... then instead of scrapping it and getting an AMD card you could instead get a second Nvidia card and run SLI and 3-monitor-surround. This way you have two cards powering your 3 monitor setup for approx. the same cost as if you were to scrap the Nvidia card and just use one AMD card. You'll get a much better performance this way.

The best plan to get a 3-monitor setup going really depends your current graphics card and monitors. If you need a new GPU anyways, then going for a 6970 is probably the most logical choice for a new 3-monitor setup. If you already have a good Nvidia GPU, consider getting a second one.
