Rare sub-par items for psychotic prices... I don't get it

    Three examples:

-Reins of Poseidus. I don't understand this one at ALL. You get a mount that can only be summoned in water. The only place you would need this one is in Vashj'ir, and you already get a free one. Why pay as much as 150k for something you'll never use? I can understand TLPD going for that price if it was BoE, but you can at least use the TLPD everywhere to fly, and RoP is only useful for occasionally getting from Stables to BS.

-Rare non-level cap items. There is someone on my server that is trying to sell a rare lvl 58 belt for 350k gold. I've also seen lowbie stuff selling for 50k gold, 70k gold, or more. Why buy something you'll outgear with one Outland quest or a higher level dungeon?

-Non-companion pets. This one I find seriously stupid. I see that damn parrot on the AH for 25k almost every week, and it's just a recolor of the other parrots. Maybe if the pet looked badass or if it did something, it might be worth a few hundred gold, but seeing pets being put up for 10k-30k gold really confuses me.

It's just gold. Consider pets/mounts luxury items. People with gold will buy them.

Collectors love this, OP. Why? Because they just do

People will pay insane amounts of gold for the sake of collecting

Reins of Poseidus: You can use it everywhere, not just Vashj'ir although it's slower elsewhere it's still faster than normal swimming speed.

Rare non-level cap items: Maybe a bit overpriced but everybody likes to see some purple in their character panel even though it might be unoptimal for the level they're still going to keep it. I know because I have.

Non-combat companion pets: If you aren't a pet collector you aren't going to understand why. The parrot's price is so high due to extreme rarity, and I stupid dumbass used one myself when I got one as a drop.

    Because of capitalism.

What do I care if people want to pay me 2k for some pet that I randomly get? He wants it, and I want his money.

You can ONLY use it in water though. Meaning there are VERY VERY few uses for it.

Collectors, and the sub level cap items can be used for twinks as well but it's mainly for collectors

The pieces in question are actually blues.

I'm just gonna say it, pet collectors are 'interesting' people. I'm not making fun of those who like pets (as I am one of them, enchanted lantern FTW), but I hate the people who will pay anything to get any pet they don't have.

    But seriously -

I love collecting mounts, and if I killed Poseidus I would learn the mount rather than sell it. I won't SPEND that much, but I can understand why some do.
Same goes for non-combat pets. I have 148 and am looking forward to getting more.

As for the non-cap items - I've never seen anything like that. However, we all know that twinks exist and twink people are unstable.

Since when has gold mattered at all in WoW, especially when you can make over 100k a week if you REALLY tried. Gold is pointless and has been since the release of Wotlk, hell even in BC you could farm over 5k gold a week. What's the point in having 1500000k goold if you wont spend it. hording gold does nothing, and if you play the game theres no point in not making an extra couple k gold while doing your daily heroic/raid.

When someone asks "why", "I don't care" is a pretty stupid answer.

OP some of the lower level stuff is unobtainable due to the Cataclysm world changes. There are also BOPs that you only get from like Qiraji stuff and such that are no longer obtainable and haven't been for even longer.

You can betcha ass that this thing will sell well.

[Also, lots of T0/T0.5 stuff was BoE iirc, also sells quite well for those who want to collect these sets.]

Firstly, Just because you've seen someone selling the mount for 150k or more... doesn't mean it's sold at that price, it really isn't worth it and only goes for 40-50k on my realm, and that's just because of the rarity.

The majority of low items which are listed for high gold are usually bis twink items, although twinking is kind of dead now, there are still some pretty active twink brackets.
