Do I believe that the U.S., my country, would fund regimes that oppress people, and sometimes funds both sides of the same conflict? Seeing as how we currently fund regimes via weapons and hundreds of other ways i have no doubt lol.

I don't think that is what this is about. The dude is a private citizen trying to make money for his private company in an extremely shady way.

If the kucinic part is true he needs kicked in the face though. Of course,at least he was trying to get true informtion to use instead of completely making crap up.
