Do you help others in the game?

Recently I came across a situation where an 85 dk was asking for help on the Guardians of Hyjal: Call of the Ancients quest. To be honest, I didn't initially pay any attention to it as I was in the middle of a quest but then I noticed that people in chat were calling him a troll. The dk then lashed out at everyone in a rather hostile way.

After all this, I tried to help him in a whisper but for some reason he still didn't understand what to do. I guess he was either trolling or simply not trying to understand or bothering to look it up online.

So, my question is very straight-forward: Do you help others in the game? Or do you perhaps call people trolls and continue on your merry way?

If I am not doing anything that is time crucial (see right before raid) then I generally help out. I especially help out lower level toons with the group quests since I remember the pain of trying to do those. The only problem is I am not in major cities much so I don't help out as much as I used to, but if I am in the zone and you whisper me I will come and help or if you even ask in /1.

At the particular example, I could understand why people would be upset with him/her since that is a very easy quest chain to complete with little to no good gear. Also most people have probably done it already and thus could not help.

Sure, dont mind, but they haft to come off as atleast "newbs". Not gonna bother with beggers, that has no will to learn or interest.

I like giving people gear advise if they have my attention.

If it'd be an attepmt likte this one, I'd ignore it.
If someone's politely asking for help because of X or Y I'll help.

Except if it involves Nagrand and its group quests.

Of course I help in most cases actually unless it involves people begging for gold well then that's a different story

I help out people now and then but I can't say I go take random people on boost runs and stuff, more like answering questions, helping people out if they are about to die and so on.

I belong to a social/leveling guild that gives people rank based on 'points' received for helping guildmates. I'm barely a step below officer... but I don't do it for the points. I do it for something to do and because I like helping people.

I'll help people who help themselves. About as concise as I can make it.

When not in great mood - ignore all
gold related - instant ignore
boosting - 1 or 2 run if I am bored and in a good mood
advice - if they understand when you explain them, OK, asking same questions 2-3 times, ignore.
general questions - 1-2 /w OK, drag on too long = ignore.

I try to help people where I can but it isnt always possible because some people take the fact that I try to help them as I am an elitist telling them how to play a game, even if I am nice about it. Some people appreciate it where as others take it as an insult, some though are just beyond help.

as long as i'm not busy then of course i'll help. sometimes i'll even give beggars what they ask for with a little bit more on top. not real money is it

Depends on what they need help with . I even help those people going "1g plzz" by giving them 30g . I give low lvls w/o boa 30g anyway , so I'd trade them even if they didn't ask ;P

well if those beggers are unguilded lowbies i help them. depends on the amount being asked for.

I'll help with more in depth stuff like a dps rotation or gemming/enchanting etc if they ask for it in guild/general. If someone's asking where a vendor is or how to do a certain quest, I refer them to WoWhead. For some reason like 90% of people get super pissed off when you try to give them a fishing rod instead of a fish though. Even had people say shit like "lol 2 lazy just tell me"
