I know Final Fantasy games have Water, Watera, Waterga, but that was AFTER Blizzard (ha!), Blizzara, Blizzaga I think.
I know Rift had a little...and I'm guessing the Final Fantasy MMO's have some too.

The real question is, would you play a horrible game JUST because they had a water-specced class? I hope not...go for substance/gameplay/fun first. Though it seems you may get both in GW2, if it delivers.

Oh, also, Shamans have Water Totems and some water spells (Healing RAIN, Healing WAVE, Riptide, etc...<3 my Shaman)...but yeah, that's all healing. Water doesn't really hurt, to be honest, unless it's a large wave or it's coming down hard, or is steam...ok I guess it's viable as damage
Generally speaking, the only way to hurt a person with water is to drown them or to freeze the water first.

Uh water can be incredibly hard. Its heavy and forceful. Ask a big wave surfer how harmful water can be. Hell just falling 4 feet into water flat can cause a pretty nasty smack.

Hitting water with the right amount of force is just as bad as hitting concrete.

And as others have already mentioned, Guild Wars 2 is what you want to look at, specifically the Elementalist. Keep in mind that when you go underwater, your skills automatically switch to skills that make sense underwater (the elite Elementalist skill Tornado, for example, turns in to a whirlpool underwater).

I'm pretty sure Restoration Shamans are water mages

No they won't everything will just be directed to the GW2 thread that already exists. Much like if anyone tries to have a Rift convo, or a Swtor convo those tend to get locked and redirected to the big threads that already exist.

I also hope that you don't mean that these forums are going to get filled with people toting GW2 as the best game ever and generally trolling any other game, because that will be a nightmare and it's a nightmare that's already starting to materialize as it is. I mean the same did happen with Rift and there are some Rift fans that still don't play nice and go around trying to shove their opinions down others throats. Some SWTOR fans are also guilty of this as well.

Guild wars 2 Elementalist, and water atunement.

The original Guild Wars for now, and once it is released Guild Wars 2!

Put enough pressure behind water and it can cause quite a bit of damage.

Guild wars 2 or Rift is what I can think of at the moment

    Heart!

Give Guild Wars (Elementalist profession) and Rift (Elementalist soul for Mage class) a try, both games are very cheap on Steam.

If you really really want "all water, all the time" you're probably going to have to embrace a playstyle that's less direct than "nuke them in the face."

Scew water, I want a Cyromancer dammit! And I mean a real one, not the lame attempt WoW made. I want the one that has the power to freeze your brain!

I agree that they might want to try the Spellsinger / Mystic Muse<3rd class> but I suspect the leveling grind will tire them out before they get to anything worth playing.

Another note about the video in particular is that it seems they have their graphics tuned very low as the detail on a better machine still looks very nice to this day. L2 is old and in a bad state as far as community goes. It is heavily botted and some would hate their PVP system. <It is truly hardcore> I love the game but there isn't enough community to keep me playing my Ghost Hunter. If GW2 has the water mage then you should give it a try. I'll be playing WOW till they release Lineage 3 which is still just a dream the last time I checked
