Tech noob buying a PC for his Mom

So my moms old desktop finally took a poopie and came to me for advice on getting a brand new one. She wants to get everything from Newegg since we already have the preferred account here. Can anybody help me out on setting up a cheap computer in the $600-$800 range. She doesnt want anything too cheap but she also wont be doing any gaming. Im honestly just bad at knowing if all the parts are compatible and if the computer will actually start up if i turn it on. Thanks for any advice and will be greatly appreciated.

What are you looking to do with it? Watch videos, surf, and word processing. Maybe some pictures?

I dunno what Newegg has, but I mean if we're just talking about the extreme basics like word processing, internet surfing, and nothing higher (I'm taking a broad assumption that your mom likely barely understands how the internet works if she's like my mom), you could make do with pretty much any computer on the market.

But if you're also worried about piecing it together yourself, Newegg also has premade ones they can assemble for you or something too right?

Do you want a prebuilt from newegg, or do you want to build it yourself?
If building it yourself, do you need keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, windows?

If it's just a basic computer for simple uses, just get a prebuilt from newegg and Microsoft office.

I'd suggest she gets a "Llano" based Laptop.

Unless you're gaming, there's no real reason to own a Desktop any more.

But honestly, for a user as casual and clueless as moms, 2nd hand PCs are a good catch.

I sell my parents my old PCs when I'm on the market for a new one.

    Are you insane?
CPU - A4 Llano - as low as 65 bucks
Mobo - Biostar or AssRock ( I couldnt resist ) FM1 mobo, those go for as low as 60 bucks
RAM - 2 or 4gigs of 1600 RAM (Cheapest) these go for 15 to 20 bucks
250 or 320 gig 5400 RPM drive, (50$) or salvage the old one for free.
Case: cheap 40 dollar case, something like this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811154062
    Optical drive :
    >2011
    >Optical Media

either that or an lg burner for 15 dollars.
8gb USB drive for your OS, so you can install it.
Well, pretty much that is it, What's that down to now, 200 dollars?

OP clearly said his mom doesn't want anything too cheap, and this is EXTREME budget, bottom of the line stuff. I think the post you quoted is more accurate to what the OP has in mind.

Anything more is a waste for word processing and simple tasks, if you ask me, she's better off buying 3 screens for multitasking with that budget.
