    How's Dead Island - PC?

I saw this on gamefly for 30 bucks and considered buying it. What do you think.. worth a play through?

I wouldn't spend 30 on it unless you have friends to play with. It's pretty decent, but the lack of a big budget shows in a lot of places and it still has a few lingering technical issues (although nowhere NEAR as many as it did at launch). It's MUCH more fun co-op with a few friends (duh) than single player, it was definitely designed to be played co-op.

Exactly what Edge said. This game is super boss with friends. If you are solo or trying to freeball a group it might not be worth it.

I have had a few friends say SP was worth the funds but I played this game 100% MP and it was worth 60 bucks at release, even with bugs.

Definitely something you want to play with a friend. It's quite repetitive, but the combat feels great.

For me and my friends the game was quite underwhelming, but its worth it if you play with some friends, the atmosphere is really good.

I played it solo and quite enjoyed it, but I wouldn't part with much money for it really, I only played it through once.

The game is reasonably good but it gets really repetitive after a while.

It is fun for the first 30 minutes (if you play with friends) then it just gets insanely boring

as others have said...its good co op, nothing else. I'm not one for zombie games, but the beautiful trailer of the girl falling out of the building grabbed me in. Was it worth it...eh, I've spent my money in worse places. Give it a shot, you might like it, but see if you have friends who have or will get it with you. THe co op is much better than the single player.

It's a pretty cool co-op game, at least for a few hours of gameplay. It gets really repetitive after a while.

i got it for free and played it once for 30 minutes until i got bored. if you like zombie games with a little crafting and exploration, then you'll probably like it. if not, then i doubt you will.

I beat the game with a couple of my friends when it first came out and honestly we hated it. We had more fun making fun of the cut scenes than playing the game itself since it felt more like a chore when you had to upgrade your weapons or repairing them. You pretty much melee zombies with anything you find like a cricket bat or wrench. When you finally get a gun its pretty much useless against zombies since its meant to kill people. But thats from my personal experience so your may differ if you do decide to try it out.

I had a great time with it on the 360. It's got a similar loot system to Borderlands, but not quite the diversity of enemies. It's still a great game though in my opinion, and worth a play through.

    Don't bother, really.

Generic "quests", meh feeling to it really.
So long time after release, they still haven't fixed the dual monitor issue.

If you've got 2 monitors, like me, on a Nvidia GPU then your game will just stay black unless you disconnect the second monitor

Perfect summary; I would second that. The gameplay is just running, slaying zombies, doing simple quests, crafting weapons. If you like this and won't get bored doing this for hours, you might check it out.
I fell for the trailer and expected somethin, well, "different" after all

Yeah, I've been playing it on the Xbox, and what annoys me is that zombies ALWAYS get hits in (infected mobs move VERY fast). You spend so much time on low health, unless you find some health fillups to temporarily boost you. As you spend all your money on weapon upgrades and repairs, dying never costs me much, usually less than a medkit. The inability to block or dodge effectively means all you can do is swing wildly while running about like a lunatic hoping you get them all before you run out of health, or you use hit an run tactics on everything.

Playing solo is infuriating, as you get cockblocked everytime you come up against a thug. I picked the sharp specialist and spending the first 15 levels using a kitchen knife is horrendous. Until you get your hands on something with a bit of reach and swing (machete) you will just get gnawed on by zombies flanking you all the time. My advice is to go blunt (you also don't get any gun until the second zone and ammo is very rare, so picking the shooter character is a total waste)

The end result is that when you play online, everyone is using the same character and it's just people running about bashing zombies for no real purpose, as quests do not progress online.

That said, I don't like first person melee (TES!) so this game may never have appealed to me long term (I got it to play with other friends) anyway.

Well said. I played all the way through with just one guy and it was what made it fun. It's not a bad game, but it's not a great game, either. Story is pretty stupid, I should mention.

Honestly it is pretty fun in short bursts IF you are playing with friends. It is pretty generic, but it is still quite fun if you are just looking for something to do with some friends. I would say if you can get it cheap then go for it. I spent $30 on it and it isn't quite what I would expect from a $30 game. Perhaps you could wait and see what Steam has going for sales coming up?

I was HEAVILY disappointed with it.. A zombie survival game, thats more like an RPG. Skill trees, 99% melee only, monster levels... Had I known what I was getting fully, and wanted that sort of game, then yeah, would have been great. I was thinking it was going to be more along the lines of a RE type game.
