[TV] game of thrones looks like wow a lil bit

just saw the first episode and i think kings landing looks a lottt like that alliance place in boring tundra, it has its own dock and stuff, and the castle thing is kind of facing the sea if im not mistaken..i dont play alliance but i spent a lot of time in stormwind before.
anyone else think of wow when watching this show?

Medieval fantasy universes were originally created by book writers , it's normal for games of the same genre to look alike. After all , how many ways a medieval castle can look , a few towers , keeps, shops , whorehouses maybe a dock if it's near water.

Not even in the slightest. Like at all. Every coastal keep or city in every fantasy setting has a dock or series of docks in or connected to the city.

Never. You're reaching a bit too far with this one.

i remember watching a behind the scenes about king's landing, pretty sure it was an actual place, not a set. though i believe the throne room was a set from another series.

    and guess why?
because it's that way with real costal cities and keeps too, as it would be retarded not to have docks in such a location
in fact, the king's landing scenes are shot in an actual city in croatia (if i remember correctly). the keep and the surrounding old part of the city actually looks like that in real life.

so yeah, @op, absolutely not, no. sorry :P

Game of thrones kinda reminded me of skyrim a bit. But really any sword and shield fantasy will look like another sword and sheild fantasy.

I remember i would go on like 48 hour Halo binges and at the end of those I would go out and do stuff and relate everything to Halo. Like watching a horror movie I couldn't figure out why for the life of me the don't just slap a sticky grenade on Jason's face.

I think that's where you're coming from. Or at least I hope.

Game of Thrones is far too realistic for me to really see parallels with video games.

Bitch please.. It's not WoW that started all these things. If I had to think of a game that would resemble GoT, I'd sooner think of Oblivion & Skyrim than WoW.

    Very far-fetched.

    oh the irony xD
you do realize that neither of those are anywhere to close to beeing "what started all these things", right?^^

I can't liken the scenery and locations to WoW at all, but some of the characters remind me of Warcraft ones. Cersei and Sylvanas have quite a few parallels, for example...

Skyrim would be the only thing that even almost looks similar, and that's just because of the theme. (Jaime's actor could probably do a wonderful Ulfric / Mercer Frey, but that's beside the point.)

You ask for more? Then come, traveler, to the Whispering Deep, where only the mad walk.

Not really. It's more like WoW makes me think of other places.

A lot of medieval castles/cities/living locations were near water because they didn't have complex piping like we do. Likewise, if there was ever a siege on the castle they could have supplies brought in from the docks (and also still have a water supply)

Basically, a lot of castles are near water for survival.

that is one reason, but in many cases it was also the other way round: castles were build on locations of (strategical) importance, and trading hubs -- which are usually located at coastlines and which usually have huge docking areas -- are simply one example for such locations

I'm too busy enjoying the show to compare it to anything. Game of Thrones is Game of Thrones, there is nothing to compare it to because there is nothing quite like it.
