    Need advice on this laptop!

    Hello!

Looking to get advice on this laptop I'm looking at currently, had a friend of mine that recommended this one to me but I'm a bit sketchy because it's a dell because I've never really liked the look or feel of dells.

What I'm wanting to do on this laptop is basically just to game, (WoW, D3, LoL, Dota 2 etc..) and hoping this won't lag at all from the computers perspective, and be able to run on some decent graphics settings
I've never really been all that tech savy so I'm not sure what's good and what's not, figured I'd get advice from here. Anyways the computers specs are as follows.

I just copy/pasted from the site on what it had. Forgot to mention that my budget was around 800-900 with the 1100 that this laptop is would be the absolute MAX that I would spend. What do you guys think, is this a good laptop? Or is there something better that I could get for that price. Lemme know if there's anything else you guys need to know!

    Thanks!

It's decent enough, but some kind of issue is rather low resolution that most 15" and smaller laptops have.

I wouldn't get 1366x768 as primary display after getting used to two fullHD monitors side by side on my desktop now, but if you're coming from some old crappy monitor it's not gonna bother you.

Also, I am not sure if you know but you could get a LOT better desktop for $1100. If you want to see your options with a desktop let us know and we can configure it for you

Also if you're speaking of USD, $1100 is quite a lot for that, Lenovo Ideapad Y570 is significantly better buy for generic gaming use.

Can't post the reply with the quote yet apparantly... but can I ask what makes that Lenovo so much better?

Besides much lower price and better graphics chip?

Figured the price was a given, but only reason I asked is because like I said I have no idea what's good and what's not for gaming when it comes to computers.

I purchased the Lenovo myself for the reasons that it is priced extremely well for the specs and has a stand-alone video card. Also, Lenovo quality is extremely good. The only thing I would suggest for gaming is to pick up a cooling pad.

    Addiktion,

Again do you ONLY want a laptop and not a desktop?

Sorry, yeah a desktop is really out of the question, having a laptop is just so much easier for me. I don't have anywhere to really put a desktop (currently sitting at my dining room table atm) so I have to keep moving my computer all around the house so I'm forced really to just laptops for now.

This may be of some help in deciding: http://www.laptopmag.com/mobile-life...ands-2012.aspx
I also would get something with a better display. 1366x768 is very odd considering the rest of the laptop's specs.

Addiktion, you should wait a month or so when ivy bridge comes out...either get that, or a REALLY reduced price on a sandy bridge processor laptop

This was one of the computers I was looking at when I got my laptop around 7 months ago. Now, i know a lot of people are going to rage at me, but I am the proud owner of an alienware m14x. The resolution is no problem. I suggest you look into them as a viable alternative.

Again, if its not already clear, I'm not looking to incite rage about how 'overpriced' it was. I picked mine up for $1600 Australian dollars, and it would be much cheaper in other countries. since you do not see mlike one who would build their own laptop, for the flash factor (I like my laptop looking good, not afraid to admit it, and the XPS just looks and feels like a mac clone)/ performance balance, it may suit you.

You just missed the OPs budget by about mile or so. In addition of Alienware being overpriced.

No, just, no. People rage because Alienware is basically a cheap dell with a slightly fanicer case and 30% added to the price. They are shockingly BAD value for money. If paying for a label suits you, more power to you, I think for this guy though, we'll continue to suggest laptops that aren't a blatant rip-off if thats ok with you?

As far as not knowing. Take a look at http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.56636.0.html and check the chart on the right. It shows each card in position for their gaming performance with reviews and some laptops that contain the various cards.

If you google around for some of the laptops reviewed you'll find some good deals.

Get a ballpark figure for how much laptops with a certain card in cost and use google shopping search with the graphics card name then the word "laptop" eg "555M Laptop". Then ask back about ones that look good for the price.

http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.p...selected_cat=3 That will be you're best bet for performance plus cheap pricing. I say a NP9130...it's graphics card will blow that gt 540 out the window, it is full 1080p definition, and in about 1-2 weeks it should be sporting the new ivy bridge processor.

Wouldn't buy that considering y580 is right around the corner

What exactly is all of that? I've seen people saying wait for that in other threads as well, and would it be well worth it waiting for it?

IvyBridge is Intel's latest cpu architecture process that's on a 22nm scale as opposed to SandyBridge's 32nm scale. In general, it will give good gains in performance, especially video since Intel has focused on improving integrated video, and its power requirements ("envelope") will be significantly smaller. It's basically a laptop dream chip.

I posted this in another thread but never really saw any responses so I'll try again here:

I'm looking for a WoW laptop with a max budget of $1000. Size, weight, and battery life are not important to me, and WoW is the only computer game that I play or really plan on playing (maybe D3 since I'll get it free but that's it). I raid 10 mans, but I'd like to be able to play on high/ultra settings as I've only ever played on crap computers which weren't really meant for gaming so I'd like to enjoy actually having graphics and fps at the same time.

Based on my own research I had Lenovo Y570 fairly high on my possible list, as well as an Acer Aspire AS5750G-982. My question is are there other options that I have not considered? I don't really know much about computers except what I've gleaned while researching different laptops recently so my searching likely wasn't nearly as comprehensive as it could be. And are there any laptops in the $800-$1000 range which are actually worth the extra money than what seems to be decent at the $700-800 range?

I've heard a lot about this as well. My question would be two-fold: Would a laptop with those new chips then put the price out of my range at $1000 or will the prices of laptops with the SandyBridge drop significantly when Ivybridge comes out? I know with Lenovo specifically they seem to have dropped the price of the Y570 pretty well at this point, possibly in anticipation of the Y580, so is it really going to dip much further when the Y580 comes out?
