Why is it frowned upon when

Black people want to become lighter, and use methods for it like skin bleaching
But when white people want to tan its normal? Bleaching your skin isnt really great for you as it stops your pigments from regenerating and as days go by your skin becomes lighter, appearently it can cause skin cancer ( though im not sure on that)

But tanning isnt good for your skin either, people lay in sunbeds for long or are long under the sun, getting their skin burnt and it can give you skin cancer aswell.

Do you find it weird that black people want to become lighter or is it as normal as a white person wanting to tan?

Pretty sure excessive tanning is frowned upon so your point is built upon a false premise.

It's just another hyporcitical issue that western society is riddled with, there isn't really much more into it. It's so deeply burned into people's minds hardly anyone would question tanning or think bleaching is normal.

How is it, a lot of people want a tan, and im not talking about excessive here. if you go to the tanning salon 3 times a week or something
i think thats considered normal. if you say im going to bleach my skin 3 times a week i doubt people will have the same reaction.
i also saw a program about it on tv, and all the people found it to be something horrible

Most black people wish they were white

I think both are stupid, but that's just me.

It's probably because the 'society' makes no sense at all

Because one tanning session does not equal one skin bleaching treatment. What is so hard to understand? You are trying to compare apples and oranges here, and I'm not even saying tanning is good for you but equating it with skin bleaching is just way off base.

Think that it's pretty stupid to bleach/tan your skin. Both can and do cause skin cancer as well as lots of other skin irritations.

It's a cultural thing. For some reason it's still considered that tanned skin is healthy looking when it's pretty much the exact opposite. This coming from a guy who lives in the country with the highest skin cancer rate in the world (i think).

In reverse in India white looking skin is considered more beautiful because of the British heirachy that ruled them and it just stuck around. In China darker skin means you spend time working in fields farming etc which is considered a poor mans job so whiter skin means you're richer and have a higher social status.

I have brown skin and is just the right shade...not too dark or pasty. So no complaints here

They both want to achieve the same thing, black to become lighter and white to become darker which meets in the middle as a light brown. Mixed race men/women have an amazing skin color, really helps with making you look toned and darkens your facial features.

Exactly. Don't bother with society, it's a stupid institution with illogical laws and rules.

I guess you do not know how to exactly bleach skin? you can do it at home, some women even use it on their kids ( not saying thats right though on the kid part)

I didn't realize black people bleaching their skin was somehow looked down upon socially. Maybe i live disconnected from society? Maybe this just isn't that big of a social issue OP is making it out to be?
Get a grip man! It's CHEESE!

Tanning salon 3 times a week.... who ever is doing that is basically a walking ball of cancer.

The reason tanning, in most cases, is okay is because you can just take 2 steps outside on a sunny day and there you go. It's also not to become black. If a white guy started bathing in black printer ink to darken his skin color, no one would be okay with it. The fact that black people want to become white is pretty disgraceful.
These aren't the spoilers you're looking for.

    Move along.

Skin bleaching doesent make you white though, it makes you lighter. So if you're a really dark shade of brown
you could go to light chocolate brown. but i havent heard of people actually becoming white.
also when you stop bleaching your skin returns to normal over time

I think it's frowned upon when it looks terrible, just like tanning. We just had a woman all over the news because she tanned her kid and looks like a grilled carrot.
