3 Factions

What's up with the 3 Factions? Is that something that is still coming with the Expansion? If so, what is the 3rd Faction and will this affect whether I create a Defiant or Guardian?

The 3 factions aren't...really 3 factions, it's in the Conquest battles essentially. 3 sided PvP battles essentially. You can choose a faction every battle and for that battle you are stuck as it.

The Three faction concept is limited to PvP only. additionally, the 2 faction concept in PvE is almost entirely gone; while the governments are still at war, the ascended themselves are not. if you are guardian you can join defiant guilds, dungeons and raids, Instant adventures and can chat to them as well. (this change is primarily on PvE shards).

It seems that the three faction concept (primarily in conquest) is something that will remain in the long haul; there seems to be concensus amongst players that this is the future of PvP in Rift, with many requesting that it appears in zones other than Stillmoor.

As the others have said it's just in the Conquest pvp. Interestingly enough you can pick a different faction each match and can be in a different faction with people in your own guild. It can be fun sometimes to kill your own guildies or people from your same faction on your server in these matches.

While i do enjoy the idea of trading, raiding and what not with the other faction, i feel there should be somewhere in telara that is open to killing other players. Maybe just 1 zone. I miss the idea of world PvP somewhat.

There are still some PvP invasion-type events where you kill the leader of the other faction.
