    Windows 8 windowed mode Question

I run all my games in windowed mode simply because I don't have a second PC / monitor to have ease of access to Skype/steam chat.

Is it possible to run both WoW and Skype side by side in Win8? From what I've seen (though not much) you can lock applications on the sides in a narrow panel (metro interface) but that's now what I'm after. More like this (image below):

Also, assuming this is possible on the desktop interface (not metro), what notifies you when you get a new Skype/steam message when its minimized? Currently the icon goes orange on the task bar but that's removed in windows 8.

Metro won't help you in this case as it will snap only metro applications, desktop will be considered a stand alone application and it will be snapped with all your desktop applications.

On the second matter, I'm still getting the orange blink when I receive a new message on any of my IM programs.

    Metro only snaps Metro applications.

You can use the Metro skype application to get Skype notifications, that can also be snapped to the edges (being a Metro application).

It is possible for desktop apps to use the Metro notifications (Outlook 2013 does this) - but it'll take a while yet I wager before widespread support for that makes its presence.

The only other form of snapping is the standard Windows 7 - e.g. where a program is snapped to occupy either the left or right half of the screen.

As others have said, it is possible with the Metro version of Skype, you can get it in the Windows Store for free. It has less usability than the desktop skype has though, but for normal chatting and calling it's fine.
