Prot Paladin vs Blood DK: For soloing old content 60-80

Ok so I'm making a new tank with the hopes of being able to solo old content 60-80. My question is what class does the best job. Right now I'm really leaning to my Protection Paladin but I've heard a lot of good things about soloing as Blood DK's as well.

    What are you thoughts?

Blood DK is the best from what I can tell. The main drawback is that there is no tier gear for DKs in a lot of the older raids.

The blood DK will do about 2x the solo DPS of prot pally once you are level 85+. You are missing some of the excellent pally utility but it probably won't matter.

Yeah I was thinking about this. That blood DK's maybe would do better DPS then a prot pally.
    thanks for your answer.

I keep hoping Blizzard will tweak prot pally DPS upwards. It's a problem. There's not enough weapon damage based attacks. You'd be advised to keep a pally XP locked at 80, or maybe 82-83, for soloing level 60-80 raids, because you will get so much more rating out of gear.

I really don't know how many people do soloing as ret at 85-90 but it should certainly be possible.

Honestly it's comical how bad solo prot pally DPS is in Pandaria (85+).

I just killed Havak on my level 87 pally in ~430 gear. 8k dps with censure.

That's right, 8k. With the 463 mantid sword and dancing steel.

No, I wasn't wearing healing gear.

Seriously, protadin is non-functional outside an instance.

Solo'ing as Ret from 85-90 should be able to do 60-70 content as the OP mentioned he'd like to do. My paladin is 90 and so far I've done all the 60-70 raids with absolute easy (skip Vash'j just because I vowed to never do here again once I got her down because of all the stupid fears). Was able to solo Naxx successfully, I've done the first wing of Ulduar, then stopped after that but doing 10 man should be really easy. Haven't attempted ToC or ICC yet.

As ret? Can't believe you did anything hard as a level 90 prot because the DPS is just so bad.

As ret, seems totally doable. Prot DPS is in the toilet but fortunately ret keeps most of the important utility.

As a rule of thumb, you will also have a much easier time meeting dps checks using a Blood over a Prot, and pallies have to sacrifice even more dps to heal themselves, whereas with the dk it is largely all passive healing that happens anyway.
Your persistence of vision does not come without great sacrifice. Let go of the tangible mass of your mind, it is only an illusion. There is no escape.. For the soul burns on everlasting encapsulated within infinite time. A thousand year journey at the blink of an eye... Humanity is dust..

Yes, honestly it's really hard to like any other class for soloing after you've been using a blood DK for a while.

Hunter works well but it's more complicated and ultimately pets are a drawback when you are dealing with bosses that have obnoxious abilities that aren't activated if there is only one threat-generating opponent. Warlocks with a lack of easy to use interrupts and squishy pets are just not as good as hunters.

With a blood DK you just run up to whatever it is and start hitting it in the face, and in most/many cases, that's all you have to do. Attacks that do 1/2 your HP in damage, you soak, because the vengeance is handy. Your attacks are weapon damage based so if you have a OP weapon then you also have OP DPS. You have increased movement speed and multiple interrupts and a whole library of self-heals and damage reduction cooldowns.

Blood DK really is pretty much how everyone should be playing WoW.

I'd probably say blood DK. Prot paladins are very strong too though, they can get some nice absorbs with vengeance.

They could properly do about the same bosses, but you'll have a lot easier doing it with a DK mainly.

They really can't, unless you are talking about a L80 protadin in twink gear. From GC's comments about the 80 raid twinking situation I have my doubts it will continue to work that way forever.

As a result once you leave the realm of what your character is capable of you're hopeless. And as Mione said, once you're done with 80 content and want an actual solo'ing character, you'll probably regret not taking the DK. Although personally, I am playing catch up on the DK's this tier.

We're talking about soloing at 90 - soloing at level 80 is completely broken. I've seen a video of a level 80 paladin soloing Lord Marrowgar with Herald of the Titans gear.
