    New Gaming Computer Build

So I'm building a new gaming computer and wanted some feedback on a build I've been thinking about.

    Build:
    MoBo: ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe
    CPU: Intel i7 3770k
    RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 4x4GB
    GPU: MSI Lightning Radeon 7970
    SSD: Samsung 830 256GB
PSU: Corsair AX850 or Corsair TX650M
    Heatsink: Corsair H100
    Case: Corsair 800D

If this is purely a gaming build:

    1. You don't need such an expensive motherboard, the ASUS P8Z77-V LK would be a fine choice.
    2. You don't need an i7, the i5 3570K is plenty for gaming. The only difference between the two chips is that one has four virtual cores ontop of the four physical cores, but games can not/do not utilize those four virtual cores, so it would literally be $100 wasted.
    3. Dominator Platinum is expensive and 16GB is overkill for a gaming rig. However, if you want to stick with the Dominator and 16GB that's fine, but I'd switch to 2x8GB sticks.
    4. Even 650W is overkill for that build. I'd look at something like the SeaSonic M12II 520.

Rest is personal preference. Although the H100 is an older cooler and overkill for most people, you could save some money by switching that to the H80i.

might also be worth waiting for haswell release.
also overclocking ? (i guess so judging by the cpu cooler and the GPU choice)

the 7970 lightning can pull 375w. 520w is close imo.

noteworthy, I have to disagree with the PSU suggestion - at least go for a 600W PSU, and probably the 650 (even if only because of the GPU).

Newegg's calculator suggests 560W for that build, and it is known to overestimate (although it is much better than it used to be). If he wanted to go to 550W or even 600W, fine, but 650W is entirely overkill.

finding the samsun 830 might be difficult. Although a lot of places do still list them, most places don't have them in stock any more. Better off with the 840pro.

GPU : If u have done overclocking before i would pickup a after market Gtx 670 like Evga FTW or Zotac amp ( Though less popular but has 5 year warranty good for resell ) .

Looking at benchmarks they overclock superb out of box clocks ranging from 1200Mhz going upto 1300 Mhz if lucky .

They are Gtx 680 in Disguise but are powerful and cheaper then 680.

Better driver support from Nvidia and Physic x is also cool games which support it .

    There are 2 version 2gb or 4gb . If u playing on 1080p 2gb should be plenty.

The 840 and Crucial M500 series exist, y'know?

Your PC is just overkill and the case is going to make that stuff in there look small and not fun to mess around with. I have a case that is just as big and my next build will have a much smaller case.

Mobo: Gigabyte UD3H Z77- Why because it is my favorite Z77 board and it's just a solid board
CPU: Intel 3570k- Why because the 3770k is 100$ more and doesn't provide any extra performance for gaming over the 3750k (See Noteworthys post)
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LP Ram 16Ghz- Why because they are low profile it's Corsair who IMO make the best Memory/Ram
GPU: Sapphire Vapor-X 7970Ghz edition- Why with the money you will save on the 3570k and on the MOBO you can get this and it's a beast.
PSU: Seasonic M12ii-Why because Seasonic is the best PSU company and 520 is enough to run this setup oh and it's modular.
Case: I would get something a bit smaller then the 800D it's just a big ass case which looks cool and all just annoying to fiddle around with sometimes. Look at something like a Fractal Design R4 or the Fractal Design Midi.

I'd like to note also that the 800d is known as a "hot box" too. While it's a kick ass case, it very much lacks proper air flow.

Cases are a personal preference but if you wanted another suggestion for good cases take a look at the Corsair 500R (I own this one) it comes with a built in fan controller and has been really nice to work with, can easily accommodate 2 vid cards in SLI, 6 hard drives, 4 bays for DVD/Bluray drives and can even fit a 280mm radiator in it. If you want something with a window I would suggest the Corsair 600T, it's bigger than the 500R but smaller (and cheaper) than the 800D.
