    help building a new desktop

    hey i'm looking to build a new pc. i have about 1600-1700$ available that i can order from amazon or newegg, i have windows 8 and do not need a monitor or keyboard and whatnot, just the tower and the innards. i'd like an SSD and at least 12-15 gigs of ram. i'd like to have a somewhat quiet rig as my current one is loud but i'm not interested in water cooled, and the environment my pc is in is a fairly constant 70-80 degrees F. i mainly use it for gaming and streaming. thanks in advance.

    Why do you need 12-15gb of ram? You also want quiet but no interest in watercooling? Sorry man but a lot of your requests don't match up.

    What are your current specs so we know what you class as loud and with no watercooling, are you talking about no custom loops or no sealed units like corsair h100i either?

    Why only ordering from amazon or newegg as well?
    Personal rig:
    • i5-3570k (4.2ghz) || CM hyper 212 evo || Asrock extreme 4 || Corsair (2 x 4gb 1600mhz) ram
    • Samsung 840 (120gb) || WD blue 1tb || WD green 1tb
    • Powercolor 7870xt || Silverstone strider 500w ||NZXT source 210

    Now if you dont want the H100i just get the usual http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-...r-rr212e20pkr2

    But if you really want silence, there are 2 brands that focus on providing that along with perfect performance

    http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhu14s

    And Thermalight Silverarrow which PC Part picker doesnt give me a price for Newegg o.O

    16GB is a waste, but since you requested they have been added.

    I'd imagine by water cooled you mean custom open loop cooling because you are probably worried about maintenance/leaking, something not really applicable to closed loop all in one water coolers such as the Corsair hydro series coolers.

    Guys he referred to streaming so if its used enough then 16GB RAM and even an i7 are all warranted and in the budget.

    @OP I have a question: What is your monitor's resolution and do you have plans to ever play on a 3 monitor setup or go to 1440p/1600p?

    The build below (and pretty much the builds suggested before this one all seem to assume 1920x1080 with no plans of expansion to SLI for tri monitor gaming)

    PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($349.99 @ Newegg)
    CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($98.99 @ Amazon)
    Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme6 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($183.49 @ Newegg)
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($114.99 @ Newegg)
    Storage: Samsung 840 Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($173.37 @ Amazon)
    Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($66.62 @ Amazon)
    Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card ($456.13 @ Newegg)
    Case: NZXT Phantom (Black) ATX Full Tower Case ($102.68 @ Amazon)
    Power Supply: Corsair Enthusiast 750W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($114.99 @ Newegg)
    Total: $1561.25

    Important justifications:
    -16GB RAM: streaming
    -i7: streaming
    -H100i: Keeps it cool for much needed overclocking
    -case: Personal preference + allows for expansion
    -PSU: kept it large wattage so it can fit SLI without changing PSU, needed if OP goes tri-monitor gaming or resolutions above 1920x1080
    -GPU: Picked a 770 because they are good at SLI, use less power then AMD alternatives, and are quieter. I picked the $50 more expensive Lightning edition because it has good overclock headroom, great reviews, a GPU backplate, a GPU reactor, higher over clock grade parts, and is already factory overclocked as one of the highest, if the not the highest, gtx 770's available. Its also well within your budget and with this setup you should kill anything you need it to, have fun

    Edit: motherboard justification: comes with a $100 discount combo when bought with that CPU from new egg

    thanks for the help and input, my current monitor is 1920x1080and i do not have plans to use a 3rd monitor. As for quiet, my idea of quiet is probably louder than you'd think my current pc is loud as hell mainly from the case fans which is like 7 years old. As far as newegg and amazon i have several gift cards from years past for them and best buy that i wanted to use up and figure between the three places i could find comparable parts. What would be the recommended ram if 16g is overkill? i mainly don't want to have to upgrade again in a short time. thanks again
