Should i go for ssd with my laptop?

I recently got my new Acer laptop with the following specs:

    Intel core I7-3630QM 2,4GHz ( max 3,4GHz)
    NVIDEA GeForce GT 650M
    17,3" full hd (1920x1080)
    8Gb DDR3 memory (exp to 16Gb max)
    750Gb HDD 5400rpm

    http://www.laptopshop.nl/product/300...b8g75maii.html

But the thing is that I'm thinking about switching to SSD, but before I continue I want to add there is only one slot so I would have to replace it.
Also the laptop is mostly meant to be used for MMO games like wow and later FFXIV and want to get the most out of it.
But I'm not sure if it's worth it? Or what to pick and what to look out for other the write and read speed. Could anyone help me with this?

Plain average 5400rpm HDD that ships with laptop is painfully slow and you might experience night and day difference with SSD compared to what you have now. Of course not on framerates, but during loading of anything and everything. Even opening folder from empty windows desktop will speed up.

I see then the next stepppwould be picking a ssd right?
Can you recommend anything size/ brand?
I saw ssd who had a decent writing speed of 500+ Mb but a reading speed of around 250 Mb and some with about the same speed.
How much does this matter and are there other things to look out for?

Most often recommended SSD today would be 250GB model of Samsung 840, and going for Pro version if you can afford it.

Pro version is inherently more reliable technology and has faster write speed, but odds are you'll never notice the difference between pro and non-pro in a gaming computer.

Those speeds matter, but less than you'd think. What makes SSD fast in daily use is the seek time (measured in ms) instead of read or write throughput (mbps). Any SSD has about 100 times faster seek times than the best HDDs which also means any SSD is significantly better than the best HDDs in improving computer responsiveness.

I would go for it, just for the fact that it has no moving parts, nothing to ruin if it happens to get dropped.

Modern laptops drives have really good protection against falling but sure SSDs are safer that way. Another benefit from SSD is lower power use which is also nice bonus for laptop for longer battery life.

So basicly it comes down to, if I'm willing to pay about 60 euro more for some extra speed and some better tech that I might never notice with the stuff I do with it.
Im might just go for the normal 840 since it's already a upgrade on itself and will decrease my loading times possibly some of the game loads aswell, but that would be it. So it's not really worth getting the pro in my case, since I'm using it to game with my mates most of the time and the difference between the HDD 5400 and the Samsung 840 is already quite large.
But thx for the help and tips everyone much apriciated

You could either keep your 750Gb original drive for a spare, or buy an external USB 3.0 case for it for portable backups.

Also, by going to the SSD your battery will last longer

In the end i decided not to get SSD because for what I wanted it for, wasn't really worth it and wouldn't have improved my gaming performance or exp. I'm probably better off with a HDD with a faster rpm like 7200 or higher this will also be far less expensive and will probably get SSD on my next desktop upgrade.
Still guys thanks for the help and great tips! Very much appreciated

Yes, everyone should have an SSD! It should be required by law!
